Wireless/optical mouse question

I got one of these wireless keyboard mouse combos for yule, and I've got a question. Do I need to use my mousepad? Right now I'm just letting rest on the surface of the desk and it seems to work better this way.
Can I throw the pad into storage?

3. I have a wireless..and it works well on the desk...just make sure you

have batteries..cause the ones included don't seem to last long..or need to be recycled regularly. I love my wireless...Just make sure you don't haul it off somewhere when you cannot find it!

4. You don't need the pad ...

but I still use it because constantly listening to a plastic mouse slide across wood is very irritating, LOL!

I'm not concerned about this desk, it was a freebie anyway, it does take some getting used to though.

6. A pad is not a bad idea

Get one designed for an optical mouse (led and laser are different types). It will protect your desk/surface. It will provide a little resistance which may help coordination.
