Most Liberal Cities???

I am wondering, what are the most liberal cities in the country that don't require a 100,000 a year salary to live in? Do they even exist?
I was force fed this BS by a woman I barely know, an admitted born again Christian:

1. * is a great man
2. Abortion is evil, war is OK.
3. Gay people are sinners who choose to be gay
4. Jesus loves me and will welcome me when I choose to repent and
embrace him. Repent for what, I don't know.

I swear to god, if I don't get out of this valley I am going to go insane. That is the mindset of the majority of people around here. I have to deal with this shit every day. Makes you appreciate the concept of communes. :mad:

It's great if you don't mind a bit of cold and snow, a bit of hail, a bit of wind, and really huge mosquitos in the summer. Keeps things interesting -- I wouldn't live anywhere else!

but the cost of living is admittedly a couple percent higher than Detroit. I work in Detroit, and I know what you mean about the local politics. We chose to live in between Ann Arbor and Detroit, and it's not bad.

7. There are no promises in any city that you won't be tormented

by zealous Bushistas and/or god thugs. But cities on the northwest coast are notably liberal. San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, - not the small little villages necessarily and not all of the mid-sized towns, but the major cities are typically more liberal.

Bellaire was traditionally a heavily Jewish neighborhood; actually, it's a separate city within the Houston urban sprawl. It's also close to the Medical Center, so the education level is probably pretty high. I believe there's also an African-American contingent & they aren't fools.

There were more Kerry than Cheney signs in my own neighborhood just north of downtown. And my Rep is Sheila Jackson-Lee.

Austin's a lovely city but it's not what it used to be. Of course, they were saying that 20 years ago.

And Minneapolis is not listed on the big cities list....very democratic and much lower cost of living than most of the big cities on the list!

Anyone who's anyone in Columbus is Black (the mayor, the fire chief, the police chief, most of city council, etc.) and it's mostly Democrat - but like someone pointed out, you'll find freepers everywhere.

it's a pretty decent hospital, but I'm not sure if it qualifies as large. There's another hospital in Cortland, and major hospitals in Syracuse (one hour away) and Sayre, PA.

However, I'd imagine it's pretty expensive. I don't live terribly close to there and I don't know for sure, but usually, a city that big is very expensive. There are also the suburbs around Philly, which I hear are at least socially liberal, if a bit fiscally conservative. At least you wouldn't have to deal with the fundy right.

Three I would recommend:

SOUTH

Athens, Ga. Writer's mecca, you can see famous writers walking down the streets, many own homes. Great music scene. Liberal, home of University of Georgia. Low cost of living.

Asheville, NC. Liberal mecca that draws 'em in from around the South. Great organic food stores! Lots of alternative lifestyles. Fun shops, etc. Low to moderate cost of living.

NON-CA. WEST

Albuquerque, NM. University of New Mexico home. Good liberal to conservative mix town, great racial mix, the cops are a bit Hitlerish, but you can avoid them. Great organic food stores! Awesome thrift shops, every one is big into recycling. You can be in 60 degrees in the valley, and drive 30 minutes up Sandia Mountain and be skiing. Cost of livng is higher. Saw my favorite bumper sticker there: Jesus is Coming, Hide Your Bong!

Austin, TX. Another great liberal college town in a warmer clime, an oasis in the middle of the REDWASH.

generally, college towns tend to be liberal, and a lot of larger cities will have liberal neighborhoods. Large urban areas tend to be Democratic but not necessarily liberal. And some of the reddest states can still have liberal parts.

we voted almost 80% for Kerry, the cost of living is low, there is a large gay community and it's just a great place to live. Most interesting city in the world, if you ask me. We've got it all: Culture, History, Music, FOOD, and fun.
