Our feral cat also has white paws...not that it has snowed he's sleeping on our sun porch at night and 'prowling' during the day.

23. Last summer, there was a cat like that in my neighborhood

a plump tabby who sat in front of my apartment building for days at a time, letting everyone feed him.
Then we found out his owner lived in a house right down the street.
The cat still came by for days at a time, and the owner never seemed concerned.

I wonder what would make a cat with a happy home live infront of an apartment building for days at a time and beg for food?

...since he won't take his eyes off me when I am around. That stare is precisely what he does.

If I pour his food into the bowl and sit close by, he meows at me to go away and won't eat until I do.

Our ferals practically swarm around my feet but if I bend down or reach out, they back off.

One of them lets me pet him. This morning I scritched behind his ears and found that his neck has thickened and become so solid... then I looked at him, took a good look. This cat is a freaking linebacker all of a sudden!

30. Yes, I'm pretty sure Charley is the dominant male among our ferals.

We trapped him last time we did some trapping, but he went nuts inside the trap and Mrs. V. was afraid he'd hurt himself, so she let him go. I would've done the same thing. We have to figure out a way to trap this boy.

I think he's our current foster kittens' daddy. One of them favors him in a big way.

Her cats were born to a stray cat who had gone feral. They've never been treated with anything but kindness by humans (except for the trip to the vet). After ten years they still have that terrified look on their faces when my mom feeds them breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

She thinks they're too dumb to learn.

28. question about feral cats

There are a number of them at my apartment complex, around 10 that I've seen. I have two which have now trained me when they are hungry to meow at my apt door and I'll find something in the kitchen for them to eat. As a side note, the can of tuna packed in olive oil was a HUGE hit the other night. Last night it was 35 degrees with light rain. One of them arrived outside around 11PM crying out for food. I feed him, and tried hard to get him to come in for the night. (OK, so maybe I'm a little naive) I hate to see them outside, and though they don't look like they are starving it can't be a good life. I thought about calling someone.. Animal Control, Humane Society.. but I'm afraid all they will do is collect them and put them down. Only one is even close to tame. I wanna help them but I'm not sure how. The occassional mean is not a real solution. I just don't wanna know that my call is responsible for the cats being killed. What should I do?

BTW, thats a very pretty kitty. Too bad you can't tame him and take him in.

I know about fat feral kitties....I have six of them feeding on my porch every night around 8:30.

They are all plump, and look well groomed. The reason they look well groomed is because they are healthy. A sick cat will not groom himself, if a cat is healthy, they are very picky about being groomed.

If there is a heaven, people who show compassion to homeless animals will have a special place there. And all the people who did not take care of their house pets and let them run away (not fixed) will be the ones cleaning the litter boxes. :)
