I just got through with the most grotesque, revolting job I have ever had to do. No--I didn't go to a Republican fundraiser, nothing that horrible! I had to clean out my septic tank.
Evidently, when I installed the tank, I did not add the little critters that help digest solid waste. Therefore, all the solids (toilet paper and the likes) that have been flushed into the tank for the past four years have simply risen to the top and blocked off the outflow pipe. My father and I took the top off the tank today and then used shovels to fill up 10 gallon buckets with the stuff, which we (don't worry, environmentalists) disposed of properly. (don't ask.)
You have never seen anything this gross--or smelled anything so disgusting! I gagged and gagged the WHOLE TIME!
NO, Will, my Dad and I didn't have shit fights with the stuff, but we were two grumpy souls as we took care of the job. There is nothing like bonding with a parent while you shovel waste products.
Before we put the cap back on the tank, I dumped in some kind of stuff that is supposed to boost the little bacteria that will prevent this from happening again. NExt, I will invest in some kind of toilet paper that is more biodegradable than Angel Soft or Charmin. Say a little prayer for me that these two actions will remedy the problem, because I don't think I can go through this again.
