so go figure. Bartholomew just rolled off the tongue so easily after Edgar. Parents need to really think before they name their children. What sounds cute for a baby may not be so for an adult, and humans are, hopefully, adults longer than they are little kids.

8. Naming kids after grandparents or other relatives is done

in the Jewish community too, but they must be dead. Although more common in the US, Jews often don't name kids junior or II, III etc. The reason kids are often named after a dead relative is because the parents want to honor the dead relative and if they think the person was a good person (a mensch) then they hope the kid will be the same.

He was a mediaeval king up in Scotland. He endowed a loads of churches and was closely related to S. Margaret, Queen of Scots (son, or father something like that - working from memory) who was a very popular saint north of the border.

Not wishing to sound too geeky about the Saints, but I was at uni in Scotland, and as a server would sit in the same place in church each week facing stained glass windows which depicted the main Scottish Saints - it eventually sank in which is more than can be said for the sermons which were preached as I dozed off looking at the window.

Aharon, or in english, Aaron. My real Hebrew name is Arl Avraham, after my great-grandfather Abraham, but my temple changed it because Arl is Yiddish, not Hebrew, and the Rabbi didn't like that.

My oldest son's Hebrew names are Yaakov, Dov, and Sholem Tevya. Yaakov after my grandfather Jack, Dov after a great aunt, and Sholem Tevya was after an absolutely wonderful next-door neighbor who died of cancer shortly before my oldest was born.

My youngest son's Hebrew name is Meir, which means enlightened in Hebrew. The M is also for my grandfather's grandfather, whose name was Moshe-Mordechai

All of my childhood friends attended parochial school, and this got taken care of for them (they were kept on track), so I was a laggard you might say.

BTW, I see that you are from Halifax. Back in 1991, I was feeling rather restless, so I got in the car and started driving. After two days of driving, I found myself in Halifax. Your city, and province, are very nice and beautiful; and the people were all very friendly to me.
I would also like to compliment you and your fellow citizens for being very accepting of bicyclists on the open road. Never once did anyone try and push me off the road as people do here where I live.
