I was over at some friend's home tonight for dinner. When I arrived, Cheryl pulled me to the back of the house to look at her handiwork. Vancouver is having an unusual cold snap, and we've had a dump of snow. Cheryl decided her boys needed a backyard skating rink. It's not small either - 25ft by 40ft.
It's not cold enough to just flood an area. All night, about every half hour she went out and sprayed another layer of water. She's planning on doing this for a few more hours and it's already past midnight. Her husband thinks she's crazy. It's supposed to start warming up next weekend. To her, all the effort is worth doing something special for her kids.
Her son had a video party a few months ago. There was a poster for the movie. The kids got tickets. There was a concession stand. She goes all out. You should see what she does for birthdays.
Wouldn't the world be a better place if we all made such efforts to do special things for the people we love.
