For obvious reasons, we have more contact with our local elected officials than we do with those higher up, like legislators, governors, etc. . Who, at the city/village, township or county level is NICEST elected official in your part of the country/world, and why? No need to mention their political affiliation, in case they would just HAPPEN to be a Republican. *grin*I'll start.
The nicest one here, IMO, is our county sheriff. Sheriff Chambers is almost 70 (69, I think) and has been the sheriff here for 31 years. He knows EVERYONE. Any way, he's a very laid-back, soft-spoken guy who always seems to have a kind word to say to and about everyone, even the people he arrests. He and his wife have been foster parents to over 100 children and have adopted 13 of those, all of whom have gone on to become successful adults in whatever their chosen field.
My favorite story about the Sheriff happened about 10 years ago. He was ill with the flu and was trying to rest on the couch when his wife, who also serves as the jail's cook, said she needed something from the grocery store. John went downstairs (they live above the jail), found a trusty, gave him his personal car's keys and $50 cash and told the guy to go to the IGA and get what Mrs. Chambers needed. As the guy left, John said, "If you don't come back, it'll ruin my whole day, you know, Ollie (the trusty)?". Ollie came back, groceries and correct change in hand, minus a pack of cigarettes the Sheriff told him he could buy for himself. :)
Your turn.
