Can cats sense impending terrorist attacks??
Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 08:53 AM by patsified

My cat Chumley has never acted this way in the 14 months I've had him. He meowed literally all night long, has meowed all morning long, but is eating well and is not in any pain. I've checked him thoroughly and he is physically fine. It's like he is desperately trying to lead me somewhere, namely outside of the house. Our carbon monoxide monitors are not registering any deadly gases. This cat is still going nuts. Normally, he spends his mornings curled on a big fluffy blanket in my bedroom. Today, he is completely unable to relax.

And with Our Glorious Leader being in a little trouble this week with Traitorgate, and his numbers plunging... I dunno, I'm wondering if Chumley is trying to tell me that we're about to see another production from the Rove-Cheney-Rummy Triumvirate Studios, Inc.

Does anyone recall if their animals behaved strangely in September 2001 just prior to the 9-11 attacks? Or are animals more reliable solely for weather prediction, i.e. hurricanes?

Edited to add the obligatory :tinfoilhat:

2. LOL
Probably I should have included the info that he was neutered by a previous owner! He came to me as a stray. He definitely senses something, it's bugging me as to WHAT. I finally made him go outside to the backyard, but he turned around and started skeeching on the door to get back in. He wants me to leave the house with him, I'm halfway inclined to do so!

5. BOO!

I wish he'd stare at one spot, so I could locate the apparition, determine who it is, and tell him/her to go to the light.

19. I agree..
I've seen my cats (especially the one I have now) watch something I cannot see. Including moving its head like it's following this things movement.

freaky sometimes, but kinda cool too.

This is only a wild guess, but maybe you should have the electrical wires in your walls checked? Maybe it is a smell that is alerting him.

7. My dog was acting very strange this morning too.
She was acting shy, with her tail between her legs, and running away and hiding. Something she normally never does.

10. Important question: Where do you live?
Animals are very attuned to barometer changes and earthquakes.

11. I'm outside of Ann Arbor, MI
Not really earthquake country, but maybe something really whacked is about to happen meteorologically (jeebus, is that a word?)...

12. Come to think of it
My cats were acting strangely too this morning. The Siamese trotted out the door and down the hall mutter-meowing like he wanted to go with me to work.

13. Have you checked his litter box?
If you don't see any urine in it, get him to the vet's fast! Urinary blockage in a cat can cause death rather quickly.

14. He's cool in that dept.
He was giving the bushes a healthy spritz this morning! I always have heard that neutered cats don't do that, but unfortunately he's in the small percentage of neutered cats that DO do that. Thank God he doesn't do it inside the house!

Thanks for the thought.

16. I had a neutered tom who used to do that religiously
every morning on every bush in the back yard around the perimeter of the yard. I don't think it's that unusual. Sometimes my inside neutered Siamese tom "thinks outside the box" or right on the edge. In my experience all neutered toms like to mark.

One time I was visting my brother in Florida and his cat came to me one morning crying and carrying on. Well that morning I was in an accident - a girl hit me on Alligator Alley from the opposite lane. No one was hurt but the rental car was demolished.

The following morning I was to fly back to D.C. Believe me, I probably wouldn't have gone if Mooch had raised a fuss.

17. Yes they can...
...and so can snakes just as a for instance. The Chinese have developed a discipline whereby animals are observed using their various 'spidey-sense' to fortell a host of malady natural and otherwise. But if you're trying to infuse a mystical/magical quality into cats not found in any other animal under the sun? Then,

"No..."

Pixie, my girlfriend and avid cat impresario, feels that Chumley may in fact be keying upon the emotions of his owner. Is he 'fixed'? Is this his 'first time around'? What breed is he? She says that clearly certain breed are more skittish than others...and talkative = "Whoooa, Long John!!"

Besides, Pixie says he's not a 'kid' anymore he's a 'teen' ~

18. The singular thing about this
that I want to emphasize is that this cat has never done this in the 14 months I've had him. During that time, there's been plenty of stress, lots of thunderstorms... that's what's bugging me. This is a new behavior. I swear he's acting like Lassie, he wants me to come with him. He's a good mouser, if it were a mouse bothering him, he would've already caught/devoured it. I think I'm going to go outside and see if he leads me elsewhere! If he takes me to a stranded child or injured animal, I'll let y'all know!:)

Chum is a neutered male about 10 years of age. He's a great big orange shorthair (Michigan cats are HUGE). I've heard rumors about redheaded cats, LOL!

I appreciate the insight and the posts from everyone.

20. Please follow him.
And if it's nothing major, you'll know...and if it is, then you'll be glad you followed him. We've had two big orange shorthairs. They just randomly came up one day, and fell in love with my family. They're my favorite. and they're usually really smart. So please let us know what's happening.
