Advice from Any digital camera gurus re: Digi SLR

Hi - I am on the cusp of buying a digital SLR camera for a variety of uses - I don't have much experience with SLR cameras, film or digital, and have been using a cheap point and shoot digital, but am ready to try and expand my horizons.

I have been looking at the Canon Rebel EOS 300 or the Nikon D70 - anyone here have an opinion?

I've been leaning towards the Canon as the price point is a little lower than Nikon.

Do you have any experience using 3rd party lenses like Sigma or Tamron?

5. Well from a two Nikon man and one that just

brought the D70s bigggggger brother D2H, I would go with Nikon. But first you must ask yourself if you do want to change lens. If you do great, but if not there are cheap options out there.

Lot of good prices out there on the D70s.

8. My opinion is that I'm insanely jealous....

I want to get a Digital SLR so bad. Its like having the best of both worlds as far as Digital/Film.

But from my experience, you'll probably be better off with the Canon. You'll get a few decades out of a good Canon.

Best lenses in the world. I've owned Nikons for almost 30 years.

10. The Canon.

I use an EOS 10D professionally. The Rebel 300 is based on the 10D's image processor and sensor. The differences are minor (the 10D has virtual ISO up to 3200, the Rebel only up to 1600, for example, a trifle if you don't do a whole lot of low-light shooting). I'd buy one for myself, hell yeah.
