Ever have one of those days where you wish you'd stayed home?
First, I got a speeding ticket hurrying to a meeting in the rain. My hubby got one earlier this month; the cops have decided to stake out our neighborhood to boost local government revenues. I got nailed at the bottom of a hill in a 25 mile zone, where you can't actually go 25 even if you're riding your brake the whole way.
Once I finally arrived at my meeting, I learned that my biggest client is having financial problems, so they're slashing their budget. My writing assignments and pay for the year just got hacked by a third. This comes one day after I learned that my second biggest client fired the editor I write for, so I don't know if I still have work there, either. One more victim of the Bush economy. My oldest starts college this fall, tuition's up 40%, and I don't know where the money's going to come from.
I came home from that meeting, only to find out our right-wing nutcases on the school board are voting THURSDAY on whether to make my kids wear school uniforms--in a public high school! I hit the roof with the school official who told me this, since I had asked to receive plenty of notice before this idiotic proposal came up for a vote. Naturally, when I called the ACLU and asked them to send a representative, they said they can't make it on such short notice, as they have a conflict with another major event the same evening.
I need to let out a primal "Dean scream" before I got frickin' crazy.
