WTF moment: my hyacinths are blooming.

We've had mid 60's- mid 70's temps for two weeks now. So my hyacinths decided that it must be spring...

I'm going to have to dig them up, put them in pots, and bring them in before we have a frost this weekend.

Friggin stupid nature....

Just checked my other bed. The daffodils have started coming up too, but they'll be okay in a frost. No sign of tulips or crocuses (sp? how do you pluralize crocus?)

Anyone else having early blooms because of this crazy weather in the South?

9. Crocuses is correct when it's more than one species.

I collect the things and have many unusual species. If you have a bunch of Crocus blooming, and they're all the same variety, "The Crocus are blooming" is correct and plural. Different species blooming - and you have, "The Crocuses are blooming".

and his tulips and daffodils are coming up. Worried that if they get a frost they'll be done for the year.

17. Believe it or not, it's not all that unusual...

I peeked at your profile. Are you on the Eastern Shore? I'm in the DC area, and grew up around here. Sometimes we'll get mild winters. Sometimes we have 70 degree weather in January, and record snowfalls in February.

Watch for strong weather systems that come from the southwest, up the Blue Ridge. If they meet cold air along the way, we get snowed upon big time.

If you've got any leaves you haven't raked yet, you might want to cover your daffs with them. The temps are supposed to drop sharply by the end of the week.

The daffs should be fine because of the ground clutter we have over them. But those hyacinths are being dug up and coming indoors.

24. my stupid daffodils are over 3 inches tall. I swear every year

they shoot up earlier. Eventually they are going to be blooming for Thanksgiving. Like Ramadan, they will just cycle around the calendar.


At least I don't have to worry about a cold snap, unless it hits while they are setting buds.
