My 14 year old jams "American Idiot" on his guitar. |

I have a 14 year old boy. He lives a couple hours north of me but visits regularly. On his birthday last June he wanted a guitar which his mom and I went in together to get him. Now, he normally doesn't bring his guitar because we do other stuff together so I have only heard him play a couple times since then (but was very impressed with what I heard).
Over the Christmas break he brought it with him (he was getting pedals as gifts so I made sure he brought it). He played and sang! the Green Day song "American Idiot" for me. Damn the kid is good! Especially for only playing 6 months.
So looks like I've raised me a liberal... woo hooo! :7
Here are the lyrics if you don't know the song. He "radio edits" the bad words when playing for me , which I got a kick out of because I'm sure he and his buddies aren't doing that when jamming in the basement :)
"American Idiot"
Don't wanna be an American idiot. Don't want a nation under the new mania. And can you hear the sound of hysteria? The subliminal mind fuck America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alienation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. For that's enough to argue.
Well maybe I'm the faggot America. I'm not a part of a redneck agenda. Now everybody do the propaganda. And sing along in the age of paranoia.
Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alienation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. For that's enough to argue.
Don't wanna be an American idiot. One nation controlled by the media. Information age of hysteria. It's calling out to idiot America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension. All across the alienation. Everything isn't meant to be okay. Television dreams of tomorrow. We're not the ones who're meant to follow. For that's enough to argue.

I think it may have brought me to Du but can't remember for sure. I went to the Alex Jones site because Alex Jones is in that movie. Somehow it eventually landed me here. I could be misremembering though, I do know it was around the same time as when I saw that film though.

6. I was also gonna compliment your username. |

I absolutely LOVED that movie. It was inspiring to me. There was a thread awhile back where some DUers were bashing that movie, calling it "sophomoric philosophizing with shitty animation." Say what?!?

7. I haven't been around much, so I missed that thankfully. |

I personally loved that animation technique of animating over the live action film. Where you aware that is how they did it? It was shot on film and then the animation was done over top of that. Pretty cool.
I have always had dreams like that kid's. Where I wake up in the dream only to realize later I am still dreaming. Spooky. May be why I liked it so much.

9. Yeah, I think the DVD had a special feature... |
|
...that showed how it was made. I thought it was both unique and brilliant for the movie. So seemingly real, but not quite, just like dreams.

2. Does he make machine bleep sounds? |
|
And, any chance he could record one of his jam sessions and share it with us?

They don't have any recording equipment that I know of. My cousin does but I doubt he would part with it even for 2 weeks for him to take home.
For only playing 6 months I was pretty blown away. He has a "repertoire" already. Mostly teenie bopper pop like blink 182 but some classic metal and rock stuff too. Like "War Pigs" and even "Sweet Home Alabama".
Edit: Oh and "Wish You Were Here" from Pink Floyd

Everyone has been giving him suggestions on what he should listen to and play when they heard how good he has become :). I'm still working on getting him to play some of the old Dead tunes I know all the words to but with only feigned intrest so far I think.
