Let's practice life without profanity for GD
I agree with the changes completely. How does it censor someone to keep them from resorting to *FUCK*! to get a political point across?

So, we may need some practice. Post an imaginary thread and try not to use profanity!

Example:

The "steroidal" neocon "thumb twiddlers" just hit a "dangit diddly" home run by pressuring the press - Those "momma boys"

Okay. Let's practice.

5. Shit....
Nixon's boys...long dead...would be laughing their asses off at the namby pamby politically correct hoops we jump through these days-

Very often I miss the old cigar, cigarette smoking, bourbon swilling Democrats of the late sixties. I bet they could cuss like sailors, and would be damned for apologizing for it.

10. You're right - I caught myself too late
but, why can't we envision that The Chicago Daleyites sat around and said to each other:

Dang, that Nixon is sure pooping on this country! We need to do something!

14. Or the Johnson team...
now those were some cussin' people.

Johnson would start with the, "Come on, get with the program", kind of stuff; and if that diodn't work, it came down to the, "Listen you asshole, either you are with me, or I'm gonna pull that ie so tight, your fuckin' head is gonna pop off, you son of a bitch"!

Quite the character, I'm really surprised he didn't screw up on TV, with some of his speeches, he just looked like he wanted to tell everyone to, "Fuck Off"!

:bounce:

Which is more than excellent.

Minge, botter, tatties, totty, langer, bulldog eating porridge... the list is endless:

16. I'm famous at work for this, and many DUers have experienced my
piece de' resistance:

OHMIFORKINGGOURD!

Let's try rewriting this story snip from CNN.com

Bush was traveling later to Cincinnati for another fund-raiser, and was expected to have raised his campaign bank account to over $82 million by day's end.

The Esteemed NosePicker was crashing his way into Cincinnati to place oral protusions of a rich brown nature onto the softly jiggling cheeks of corporate embracees fo Satan. Said NosePicker and Satan's disciples were praying to Lucifer himself to stoke the coffer of the NosePicker's salacious bid for more time on the citizen's payroll to unGodly amounts, in order to slander, defame, and otherwise drive their Hummer Satan 4s and Cadillac Urinators over the eventual Democratic hopeful.

Together, Illinois and Ohio, two Rust Belt industrial states, have lost 280,000 manufacturing jobs since Bush took office.

Together, Illinois and Ohio, the home to hardworking, brave Union men and women laboring under the hands of the slavering disciples of the man who claims to speak to God (but of whom God claims to have call-blocked when NosePick's father was in office, in self-defense), have lost the tax paying, civic supporting lifeblood of 280,000 fine American citizens since the NosePicker succeeded in his theft of the magnificent seat of our democracy.

"So long as anybody in America who wants to work is looking for a job, I will work hard to make conditions for economic growth positive," Bush told about 1,700 supporters at a hotel luncheon.

"So long as those ungrateful Union wretches whine at me that they look constantly while their beloved children starve but can't find anything, I'll make sure the Jack in the Boxes and McDonald's stay open by offering their food to the school lunch program, thereby ensuring that their children stay unhealthy and that they become gosh-darn grateful for anything the disciples throw out to them;" Esteemed NosePicker told about 1,700 corporate puppy dogs at a swanky corporate chain hotel hosting entitled "Kiss My Gluteus Maximus for What You Could Pay 5 of Your Workers for a Month" dinner.

19. I have no particular problem with profanity, except...
when someone uses goddammit. I am not a religous person, I am totally anti-organized religion and by my own admission, an atheist, but I do respect those who do practice their faith and have strong beliefs. I think the use of that particular profanity is the most agregious and offensive of all epithets as the followers of christianity consider this one of the most sacred of all of the ten commandments. Out of respect for them, I never use it.
I rarely ever drop the f*-bomb cause I like to save it up for when I might really need it to make a point or emphasize a particular outrage. Obsessive use of profanity in a post is a turn off to me and makes the poster look histrionic and sorely in need of attention. A good post stands on it's merits.

20. Thanks, I agree with you, especially about using "God."
I don't even use sugar-coated epithets much.

Besides, when I do let loose, I get lots of reaction! For instance, I was unpacking a box of old books at work one day when I received a sharp, nasty sting on my little finger.

"F**K," sez I. "Ow, Oh, S**T, it HURTS!!!" sez I. People came running like crazy, even from way on the other side of the building, a good 1000 feet. No hesitation whatsoever.

I was stung by a scorpion.

And I work in a public library!

There truly is something very satisfying about the reaction I get when I do use an epithet, even "damn."

And thank you for showing some respect for my beliefs, too--there are more non-theists on the board like you, but the reactionary ones shout you thoughtful ones down so much it doesn't seem like it.
