9. Might have some sooner pups for ya!
I adopted a pregnant gal when the neighbors house burned and he couldn't take care of the dogs. It would sooner be one breed than the other! Mutts make the best pets!

He's a beauty - a real champion :)

Save yourself a lot of grief and get "No Bad Dogs the Woodhouse Way" Author's last name is Woodhouse. First name escapes me now, I keep thinking Rosemary but that was from Rosemary's Baby

Good luck and Best Wishes to you and Mrs. Unblock.

:toast: To the Unblock Family :hi:

btw, love the name Indiana!!

8. I'm in Love
As a previous owner of a basset as well as basset mixes you can now say "you are owned" by a basset. Bring on the Milk Bones!

10. cute dog, but...
after surviving a beagle puppy, I see things a little differently now.

My wife and I still aren't sure how the beagle managed to survive puppyhood. It seemed that every other week we were talking about getting rid of her, by any means available.

Of course we would have never done anything that we talked about doing. We have three dogs: the beagle, a basset-lab mix and a greyhound and they are our family. But when you come home from work, tired and find that the puppy has a slight case of the runs and has left a trail from one end of the house to the other, you will be surprised at the things that go through your head. This happened once while crated also, the mess was no easier to clean up.

11. yes, i'm already aware...
there's certainly a bit of 'what have we gotten ourselves into!'

she's only 10 weeks old and can't really hold it through the night.

i usually go to bed at about 12:30am and wake around 5am, but that's still too long for her.

so i have to wake up at 3am every morning as well, then go back to sleep...

otherwise, she'll just pee in the crate, which defeats the whole point of crate training.

fortunately for both puppies and their owners, THEY'RE CUTE! which lets them get away with way more than they should!

13. awwwwww
looks like my brother's dog, buford. we also had one like this called rosebud. :)

They get away on a scent and are GONE! I hope you have a fence or
something. A microchip will be good too. What a fabulous little baby.

14. She's sweet. I had a basset for 13 years with markings just like hers
Edited on Wed Oct-01-03 12:22 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
Her name was Miss Fanny and she was used in a few local ads. YOu've gotta watch their wrinkles though and keep them clean. Also, always pay close attention to her eating habits. Because of their long droopy body habitus, they can get twisted intestines and back problems rather easily.

Not trying to dampen your joy or anything. These are just common health problems in Bassetts which if caught early will be less expensive and keep the dog healthier longer.

Hope you have many happy years together.

She's beautiful.
:D

on edit: Had a boy bassett too who was great but the reason I told you more about Miss F was that she was the one with all the health issues. All he ever did that was a problem for him was to occasionally step on his testicles when we were out for a walk which would result in a very...well...understandable... yelp.

15. Just too cute and adorable!
I love puppies with their little fat bellies and all. Please keep us updated with growing pictures of your new baby, Indy.

I prefer cats but would like to have a dog. I don't have one because I live in a very small apartment and sometimes must work overtime. Not fair to a puppy to have to wait loooong hours to go tend to its business you know.

Indy is ADORABLE!!!

16. Just wanna kiss that face, don't you?
She's precious. She's a lazy little thing, huh? Puppies are the best...but what's great about bassets is they're so mellow. We've discussed getting a basset when we get a house. I'd rather have a cat, but my bf is a allergic to them. Enjoy her. Dogs are amazing little creatures...and when you feel like no one in the world loves you, they come in prove you wrong.
