Evangelical DU'ers: How has it been for you to discuss politics in church? |

My brother is an evangelical and a lefty. On some issues, further to the left than I. But his church is VERY conservative. At first it was kind of cute for him to be the token liberal. But since the war, things have become extremeley cold in his church.
Anyway - how do you all deal?

1. Your brother is a brave man. |

Were he to come here, most of us would be cold to him as well, I imagine.
But he'd still be one of the most important people here.

2. Yeah he probably would get some backlash |

He is pro life, but the way he argues it at least he's consistent. Truly pro life: Anti war, anti abortion and anti death penalty.

I don't get into the politcal talk in the church. (ELCA Lutheran) But then, our present minister doesn't lace his sermons with politically-charged words and catch-phrases. During Clinton's term was much worse. The pastor we had then was throwing out red meat to the konservatives all the time. I swear he should just go all out and join one of those charismatic churches forming around here. He's no Lutheran in my book. He went so far as to give outreach $$ to Jimmy Dobson's group, and invite the Promise Keepers into our church. What an ass. There were repugs their crying their eyes out over how Clinton brought the whole country down with Monica.
