Anyone else like the Talking Heads?

was True Stories. For me, the Clash and the Talking Heads made living through the Reagan admin bearable.

If so, when? I was there from 84-85. I associate the Talking Heads with College in the US, but other bands with london: The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, Big Country, lots of others

7. David Byrne is doing something now that's, well, a bit strange...

...I love The Talking Heads. Love them, love them, love them. But I'm not sure David is, how shall I say this, "balanced" chemically speaking. I watched a special with him on VH-1 and he was talking about his latest passion- Taking Microsoft Power Point and creating "Art", using ONLY Power Point. Very, very strange. I wish he would just stick to music. Now, with all the crap reunion tours that are out now, here's one for you. How about The Smiths opening up for The Talking Heads.

9. Hello from Germany,

I wasn't as impressed as many others listening to their first albums, although esp. Fear of Music was praised so much. But "Remain in Light" is one of the best albums ever. And "Speaking in Tongues" was a great record, too.
I did hate them during the eighties, 'cause all those boring hippies in Europe, who hated punk and new wave before, did start to love the Talking Heads. And I did start to HAAATE the Talking Heads - just listening to "Remain in Light", when nobody else was around.

But after all, "Remain in Light" is an incredible brilliant Album!

And I hate people, when they're not polite!

26. Yes, the Adrian Belew / Bernie Worrell period was their best.

I like some of Byrne's outside projects also, like "The Catherine Wheel" with Twyla Tharp. Byrne / Brian Eno is another great combination.

I still appreciate the early stuff, too. It was so different then anything else out there. Maybe it hasn't aged as well, but back then, it was radical.

and liked every new album more than the last. Saw Byrne recently on his last tour; very impressive. I still like their work together better than David's solo work or (the tom tom club).

Too bad the heads will never reform though. I think that if david and Tina (Weymouth) were ever put into the same room they'd kill each other. Much bad blood between them, starting all the way back when they were at RISD. (Rhode Island School of Design)

46. A friend saw them in concert in Lexington, KY...

in the '80s when he worked at a rock station. He desribed it something like this:

David Byrne walked out onto the stage carrying only a boom box. He placed it on a stool at the center of the stage; inserted a cassette; and pushed the play button. He picked up his guitar and began to play. Every so often, a spotlight would shine on a member of the band; and that person began to play. Well, after everyone was playing and singing, the music just stopped and the lights went out. A single spotlight was placed on Byrne. He stood there scratching his head. He picked up the boom box and stared at it. He suddenly smacked his head; reached into his jacket; and pulled out some batteries. He put the batteries in the boom box; hit play; and everything started again. My friend said the crowd went crazy.

47. Crosseyed and Painless is one of those classic lost tracks

The one that no-one names when asked for a favorite Talking Heads song but there's so much going on in the instrumental track and the lyrics are Byrne at his most obtuse/crytic best.

The commentary track on Stop Making Sense indicated that it was their attempt at creating an afro-pop record.

Bryne went on to say that they used it as their final song of the set on the tour because while it was never a popular song and one of their lowest ranked singles, it was the fastest (i guess in overall tempo) and it allowed the concert to end on a high energy note.

That just made me like the song even more than I already did.
