once you have the oppurtunity to steer the interview, take it in directions you're comfortabLe with. if you something in common with your interviewer go that route.

Do as much research on the company and the position that you are interviewing for.

Present your skills and background to the hiring manager and try to highlight how you can be an asset to the company.

Really that is all you can do. If it meant to be you will get the job.

26. I had an opposite experience of that

I'm a guy and I went in for an interview at a big company and the woman I spoke with first was in HR and her first question was, "What turns you on?"

So, while I was just out of college at the time, things like, "female human resources personnel" and "women in positions of power" went quickly through my head, I ended up saying something about how challenges turned me on. But, I didn't think it was very appropriate to ask in that environment.

And, she was not that attractive that I recall.

I was so shy & quiet out of college that I had trouble selling myself to any prospective employer. It was only after the company that I had worked as an intern at the year before had an opening that I got a job...

25. have a few questions ready for the interviewer

typically they'll ask if you have any questions - have some. about the company, what it does, parts of the job, etc. too many times when i've asked someone if they have questions i get a blank stare or some comment like "no, not really, it sounds very interesting." to me that's an indication that the person didn't do any prep work about the company or the position. i'm not saying be prepared to debate, but at least be able to fold what you know about the job and business into a question that shows you're adept and not just going through the motions....

They like questions - I had one yesterday at an interview and the woman said, "oh, that's a good question." So, I think I made a good impression and won't have to just rely on my dashing movie star looks... ;-)

Even simple questions like, "why is this position open?" and "what did you see on my resume that made you bring me in for an interview?"
can add things to an interview.

30. Keep asking "Yeah, but what can you do for me?"

Then make sure you ask if you have to work with any dingbat Repugs, if so, demand a 10K raise.

Ask if parking is free, if you're in a city.

And make sure it's OK to read the paper at your desk.

Have a friend call you on your cell during the interview and then you say things into the phone in front of the interviewer like "What do you mean you can't get high with me tonight?", like in that stoner movie, "Conrad(?) and Kumar go to White Castle".
