Last night's episode of Lost....

I still love the show but it's starting to worry me that they are just bringing more and more weird stuff into the mix without explaining any of the old stuff. Nothing is being tied together, and in fact just the opposite they are unravelling more loose ends.

I hope this doesn't go the way of the X Files and become more concerned with making this big elaborate mythology the focus of everything, and then ignoring the actual plot and story line.

and think it's great that they keep us guessing and wondering. It's been a long time since any show has done that.

2. I do still love the show.....

..but as I said I'm starting to get worried. I'm giving the show a lot of leeway for the very reason you listed and that I like that it keeps us guessing. But I've been duped many times in the past by TV shows which mistake mystery for just not thinking ahead and winging it as they go along.

I'm hoping that is not the case.

3. I was confused

So Locke smacks Boone on the head, puts some "stuff" on him, and Boone then halucinates that his (step) sister gets killed... Ok...

Also, noone but Charly seems very concerned about the missing, very pregnant woman...

5. I agree about the pregnant woman...

I thought that last night that other than casual mentions, nobody seems to be too concerned with looking for her.

4. I don't think Locke has any "special powers,"

but I do believe he was the first to figure out what the island is all about. What that is, we still dont know, but I think he got a clue shortly after he regained the feeling in his legs.

6. I think they are structuring it like a soap opera. One small thing happens

in each episode to advance the story, but not much. If you like it--and I do agree the characters are very strong--just sit back and accept the very leisurely pace...

8. Can a "Lost" viewer answer a question for me?

I don't watch the show regularly, although my wife's a fanatical viewer.

The guy and the blonde girl who got killed last night; Didn't she once refer to him dismissively as "a LIBERAL"? Isn't he the one getting fumey and upset that the Iraqi guy was starting to be attracted by her?

Even liberals have jealousies and prejudices, but don't you think this is designed to make him look bad? Just asking. I'm not donning a :tinfoilhat: just yet.

9. I wouldn't read too much politics into this...

The whole show is an exploration of human emotion and struggle under extreme circumstances of pressure. Maybe that was the point, maybe it wasn't. Totally open to interpretation.

10. I'll buy that. Like I said, it wasn't that big a deal.

I just get sensitive to that stuff sometimes. I was out talking to my neighbor a while back, (she doesn't know my politics) and she mentioned the word 'liberal' in a context that made me aware that she had no idea what a liberal was. She must have just heard it from one of the right-wing radio blowhards, and it became her all-purpose "this-means-it's-bad" word.

11. Well, it is an interesting take on it....

If you enjoy looking at things that way I would watch the show more closely because there is a lot of stuff like that. I mean one of the main "good guys" on the show was a member of the Iraqi republican guard and used his torture techniques on one of the other "castaways", and the other "good guy" doctor allowed it to happen and also threatened the same guy with withholding his medication if he didn't give someone else what they wanted. The whole show is an exploration of these types of disconnects and issues. It's fascinating.

12. I saw part of the torture episode. I seem to remember being

pleased that at least SOMEONE brought up the idea that if we're the "good guys", we shouldn't be using the tactics of the "bad guys".

Of course, that didn't stop the doctor and the Iraqi, but nevermind...

13. The reason Boone got so upset...

about Shannon and Sayeed is because he was in love (lust?) with Shannon, who is his stepsister, rather than his biological sister. I don't think it had anything to do with Sayeed being Iraqi; after all, Boone does have a history of paying Shannon's boyfriends thousands and thousands of dollars to break up with her. He knew that he couldn't do that with Sayeed.

I for one am glad that the siblings are finally being given something to do besides being purty.
