Cheesecake. Why is the word "cake" used when it's clearly a pie?

but, imo, the density, size and shape of cheesecake makes it worthy of cake status.

10. There's a bit of history to this:

Two rival bakers in New York city in the 19th century were commissioned by Boss Tweed to make a dessert using cream cheese. One baker specialized in pies, the other in cake. Well, the piemaker made the superior product, but the cakemaker stole the recipe and dubbed it "cheesecake," much to the delight of Boss Tweed.
