The uranium sulfate is in the form of a concentrated "slurry" and is passed through a filter. What builds up on the filter is called a "filter cake" or just a "cake" as in "caked on solids".
It's chemical engineering jargon

My Science teacher husband was taking inventory of the chemical reposetory and came across some that's been hanging around since the 60's or so.
