Breaking news: Treason-gate A DU Picture Story

Today, President Bush's White house promised their full cooperation in an investigation into the leak of the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame to Republican operative reporter (cough) Robert Novak




After a rocky morning in which the administration had been caught off guard by an inquisitive press for a change



The President sought expert advice on how to deal with a press that actually asks questions not included in his prepared alibi




The President was instructing his staff to cooperate fully with Justice Department officials - when they finally get around to pretending to investigate the security breach






The dramatic day was largely considered by many to be the first real slip up to occur in an otherwise tightly controlled White House since.....

White House officials continued to assert that a special prosecutor was not necessary, and that they envisioned the incident being satisfactorily resolved by the Justice Department




Meanwhile, Attorney General John Ashcroft confirmed in his own press conference that his office was prepared to uphold the law and get to the bottom of the situation





CNN commentator Robert Novak continued to defend his actions




by stating that the agent in question was not really an operative but low level CIA employee




Novak went on to state that her identity was not secret and was well known to most Washington reporters






Republicans flooded the afternoon news programs claiming the issue was much ado about nothing and that the attacks were motivated by partisan politics







They emphatically denied that the President was a crook







In an effort to defend their might





The CIA called for an independent investigation into the leaks





Late this evening, it was still not clear how the White House would weather the circumstances



Sources close to the White House said they are considering their options should they become unable to avoid the outcry for a special prosecutor....we will keep you posted on this story as it develops
