I really have to applaud you for your insight into the last several decades of popular music, and I find your posts and lists to be fascinating, for the most part.
BUT I have to tell you, as someone who was born in 1969 and went through adolescence during the 80's, that the early 80's are second only to the progressive rock heyday as my favorite musical eras (and I knew pretty much NOTHING of progressive rock until about 1986, when I began to notice a change in top-40 music that didn't appeal to me). Yeah, I know some of the synth-driven music they were doing is pretty simplistic and gimmicky, but it means the world to me because some of the only good memories I have from that time are directly connected to the hours I would sit listening to KLUC 98.5 here in Vegas.
You have every right to dislike the music of the early 80's, and to believe that it signaled the death knell for popular music or whatever. But sometimes I think that you go a bit too far in trying to cast certain styles of music in a negative light. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to flame you or start any kind of argument here. I just think it would be better if maybe you gave some thought to those of us who, for whatever reason, enjoy music that you don't.
