Today I discovered that one of my new baby corn snakes escaped. I totally panicked because 1) it's small and could fit almost anywhere...it could even have made it outside, and 2) it was expensive.
Panicking I tried to move the shelves that the snakes live on to check underneath. The top snake crashed to the ground, spilling water and aspen shavings everwhere. The occupant wasn't very amused, but she was OK.
I was exasperated. These days I barely have enough energy to take care of myself, let alone clean up huge messes. Angry with myself, I headed to the bathroom to get a dirty towel. I needed it to mop up the water and sweep the shavings into a waste basket. I picked up a small blue towel...and underneath was the escaped baby corn snake. I couldn't believe my eyes. I blinked once and she was still there.
"You little brat!" I shrieked.
But I'm thankful. Had I not picked up that towel, I probably would have turned the place completely upside down searching for her. I'm also thankful because so far she has the nicest markings.
Little brat, indeed. :)
