with Meg Tunny and Henry Thomas. Very dark romantic comedy. Probably my favorite soundtrack of all time from a movie.

She is a girl with Tourettes Syndrome, he mildey retarded (or just extremeley introverted and thus socially inept). They met accidentally while both are shoplifting, and end up going on a road trip to Niagra Falls together.

Dark story, dark ending, great movie.

Unfortunately, it's not available on DVD, but I was able to find a copy on VHS at a rental place that was going out of business several years ago.

Highly recommended!

16. "A Captive in the Land"

one of the first collaborations between the US and Russia after the breakup of the Soviet Union. Set in the Arctic, it is the story of an American meteorologist who sets out to rescue a person from a plane crash-to his horror,he finds out the survivor is a Russian! The rescue helicopter doesn't come, and the men find themselves alone on the ice for the entire winter. Since the Russian is paralyzed, the American realizes the only way to save both their lives is to walk over 360 miles, pulling a sledge with the injured Russian on it! A great survival movie. I recommend it, as it is my favorite film.

An amazingly creative film about the post WW2 German railroad, the Werewolves (the German anti American/ anti Nazi resistance), and a young German-American man who gets a job with Zentropa, the German RR co.

It is hypnotizing and has you asking questions at the same time as having you on the edge of your seat.

Didn't know til now that the movie was ever completed and released.

Parts of the film were shot on the SMU campus in 1968 or 1969, memory is foggy here as to the exact date.

The plot was that some gas got lose and killed everyone over 25.

Mrbill was an extra in a tracking shot portraying wild debachery set on the front porch of the Kappa Sig frat house.

Wasn't a Kappa Sig but the casting director or whatever liked my long hair and told a group of us to pretend like we were smoking marijuana, while everybody else had beer and wildly gyrated. Gave a very convincing performance.

Watched the theatres for years, it never came out, or did in very limited release.

Must get a copy of the video or dvd to see if mrbill ended up in the film or on the cutting room floor.

Jessica Lange's scene as the Goth queen Tamara, where she begs Titus to spare her son's life, is absolutely chilling.

Sounds simple...maybe boring...but oh, what a film. I loved it.

Just keep in mind...the cab is the only connection. You're not seeing one story...but five short ones. If you don't like short stories, this film will leave you flat.

cry at the end when Johanna reads the letter and we see how the wires got so sadly crossed and two people who loved each other so deeply wound up hating each other(they thought),and it was all because of a stupid blunder by the landlady at the inn(I'm never sure when I watch if she did it on purpose or not). I've read that there really was a letter to his "Immortal Beloved" found amongst Beethoven's possessions after he died,but no one is really sure who she was,and the movie is speculation. If it really was that way,it's too sad for words. The way the movie shows Johanna sitting at the window reading the letter-and bursting into anguished tears,and you can see her but not hear her,only the music,is so affecting.

You'd almost have to see a Charlie Chaplin film to find a movie that says so much with so little dialogue.

a great doc that was just released in one theater in New York a few weeks ago about Henry Darger, an "outsider artist" whose voluminous work was found in his one room apartment after he died in "a Catholic mission operated by the Little Sisters of the Poor" in Chicago.

I went to see that a second time, bringing a friend who is a dance instructor. He fell head over heels in love with it and said he could have put a name to every character, as they were so like the people he knew in dance circles.

As much as anything, "Shall We Dance?" is about the need for a creative outlet. It's a must-see for DUers, especially those who feel they're in some sort of a rut.

Requiem was deeply disturbing, but incredible. "I'm Not Afraid" was a little Italian film I saw this summer. Amazingly well done.

And, I know you won't believe this, but I *love* "Best Intentions"! I watched it 3 or 4 times on Bravo!, back when it was commercial-free. Remember? (sigh) Those were the good ole days....
