i'm watching this pretty freaky show on satanists and they're talking about how this cult in California broke into a house and slaughtered 4 people. They then had another satanist on who said "(those who do human sacrifice) give satanists a bad name"

On edit: I've read the Satanic Bible (LaVey's version anyway) as well as the Christian Bible. All I can say is that the "good" book has the exclusive rights to the murdering of innocents.

sure He told Abraham to kill his son, but it was a test of faith. God then said there would be no more human sacrifice, except of course when He sacrificed His own son so that we may be saved (i'm not being sarcastic with that comment, i believe that Jesus died for our sins).

The point is that none of these things are in the "evil" bible, whereas ....well....I don't have to tell you about the "good" book. How many people did God smite in his holy name?

You shouldn't pass judgement on things that you know nothing about. Especially things you see on TV and such.

Ok sure, God never intended for him to go through with it. But Abraham followed through and would have done it. I think we can agree that killing your own child could be considered universally evil. So what was Abraham thinking? Was only obedience a matter to him? Did he not see that what God was telling him to do was inherantly evil?

are you willing to go that last mile? But you also have to remember that everything about God and religion changes when Jesus arrives. Then God goes from being an angry, vengeful God to a loving, caring, all forgiving God.

so i believe that while God did have a hand in the writing of the bible, it was still written with human hands and with human minds.

I don't know what you mean by "tried to correct their mistake." No matter if you think Jesus is the Son of God or not, there is relatively a lot of evidence that He was a historical person. Also, the whole manner of the church changed when Jesus arrived and the bible changes as well.

one of the things with God, we are supposed to put Him above everyone and everything, but by doing that, we agree to love our neighbors (family) as ourselves. There also are plenty of examples in the bible that say how we are to love our loved ones.

the two "researchers" Gunderson and that woman are loons. So far their evidence is vague if not insubstantial with regard to "widespread" cult activity and when their survivor has only repressed memories to draw from the cases gets even more ridiculous.

Sure the 13 YO that killed his parents is nuts, but it's not evidence of widespread cult activity.

Welcome to America 2005. If we need something else to be hyped up for fear purposes why not trudge out Satanists again... Just like the Reagan 80s.
