22. Robbins hit the trifecta with that movie:

He wrote, directed and starred in that movie. He even wrote the songs he sang in the movie, but refuses to put a soundtrack out for it since he didn't want the songs to be used outside the context of the movie (they are very very neo-con idiotic lyrics).

I also think that was a breakout performance for Jack Black who played the son of the Mayor of Harrisburg PA who was like stalker obsessed in a freeperish way for Bob Roberts (ironically the real Mayor of Harrisburg during that time is a democrat and rumor has it possibly gay)

16. Dead Man

by Jim Jarmusch. Black and White film starring Johnny Depp and Gary Farmer.

Young neophye guy takes the train from Cleveland to Machine (somewhere Out West), thinking he has an accountant's job waiting for him at a foundry. When he finally arrives, the job is aleady taken and things go rapidly downhill for him in very tragic ways. But the ending is very uplifting.

DM is an old west allegory using the poetry of William Blake. Everything relates back to William Blake. OMG! This film haunts me! It's like peeling back the layers of an onion. Deeper, and deeper, and deeper...

edit: spelling, and oh the way-too-cool soundtrack is by Neil Young.

I loved "The Contender." It always makes me feel better.
I saw it for the first time in Florida, in November of 2000, just after the election. I cheered(to the consternation of my companions)when I read the dedication at the end of the movie.

Jeff Bridges was a great president.
