Here is a ranking of the 6 main types of crime. A "1" is extremel;y high, a "50" is extremely low. Texas is in the teens, meaning at LEAST the top half of the scale, in all of them. In fact it ranks 13th out of 50 on a couple of them, I think.

I can do that too. Anyone in California with a clean criminal record can get a handgun. San Diego is about evenly split liberal vs. conservative. There are a lot of gun owners and a lot of guns here, but somehow we manage to have a murder rate less than half of NYC's.

How about comparing NYC with Washington, DC where it's almost impossible to get a handgun legally? New Yorkers can get them to keep at home. It's a hassle but pretty much anyone who wants one can get one.

Wow. In Washington, DC you are about 4.5 times more likely to be murdered than you are in NYC.

Could it be that crime rates have something to do with the people who live in a city?

There is a general rule you can follow when it comes to Texas and statistical rankings. If it's something good, we rate very low on it; if it's something bad we rate very high on it. You would THINK we would, since we have the death penalty and use it a LOT, since it is SUPPOSED to be a deterrent. But with how much we use it, you'd think we should have zero crime.

I doubt we are one of the states with lower crime rates. I doubt that very seriously. We have at least 5-7 major urban areas and that alone knocks us out of the competition with states with fewer urban areas.
