Wouldn't the giant wave on shore mix waters of differing temperature thus bringing the water surface down temporarily? I could see this having an effect though not necessary here.

Ever watched a stick floating in the lake when a wave goes by? It bobs up, then down, then continues to float right where it was.

A wave, even a big one, doesn't churn the water until it hits shore.

If that were so how did it move sand that made huge new sand bars? The sand was moved from off-shore, to shore and vice-a-versa. The energy released was potent enough to mix thermoclines.

Water layers of differing temps may behave like "a stick on water" but the interface of water forced on to shore could break and mix with more dynamics than a typical wave or stick on water.

Tsunami shock waves have no effect of mixing as it travels through open sea. In shallow waters it creates "major storm" like mixing making the overall water surface cooler for a time (or warmer if detritus/sediment in the run-off caused a surface warming as it absorbed sunlight).

6. I'm waiting to hear about some cult offing itself

thinking the end is near. So far in recent weeks we've had a giant earthquake, a deadly tsunami, floods, plagues of locust on several continents, mudslides, rain in the desert (S. California and Utah) record shattering warm weather in Europe and war in Mesopotamia. I mean, jeez, what more does a judeo-christian cult need?
