Movie remakes which surpass the original...

The only one I can think of is Jophn Carpenter's remake of "The Thing". Anyone have any others?

remake of his own "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and the Judy Garland/James Mason version of "A Star is Born".

5. That is very tough

usually the best a remake can do is be the equal and that is a rare event. You have named one of the rare instances. Another I think would be "The Four Feathers."

6. 'Red Dragon'

I believe 'Red Dragon' was a superior pseudo-remake of 'Manhunter,' and is more faithful to the Thomas Harris novel as well.

The original was such crap tho...anyone could have made a better movie.
