Over here is Tenebrae responses by Carlo Gesualdo di Venoza.

He was a minor prince in Italy, and so unlike most composers could write whatever he wanted (not having to please patrons). His music is therefore quite extraordinary especially for the time (these were composed 1611). He was generally ignored, though popularised (as a relative term) by Stravinsky.

Anybody interested in the development of music, or in renaissance polyphony really should listen to his stuff. It's glorious.

There's a B.B.C. Radio3 programme (Late Junction) which has the most eclectic play-lists I have ever seen - they use a fair ammount of world music. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/latejunction/index.shtml

The area seem to broad that I never know where to start if choosing for myself.

20. Radio Tarifa are very cool

I'm a big fan of the newer Spanish groups, like Ketama, Ojos de Brujo, Radio Tarifa, etc. The fusion of the old-style Flamenco rhythms, Arabic -sounding vocals and the modern beats is really wicked, IMHO.

If you've not heard it yet, pick up the "Bari" CD by Ojos de Brujo. They're a sort of hip-hop/flamenco rumba group, which features two flamenco guitarists AND two DJs, among other players. Very cool stuff.
