I now like it though... it's the name of my father.... who also hated it as a kid because it was a "girl's name" so he went by Lester through most of his childhood.. until he realized he was named after his grandfather.. and realized it wasn't a name to be ashamed of.

"Joy" as a middle name for females is a tradition in my family spanning 6 generations now. Mom named me Gloria after Gloria Steinem, but the cool thing is that "Gloria" means "Joyful" and "Joy" means "Glorious" (according to the baby name books). Weird coincidence considering my Mom didn't know this when she named me. Cool, eh?

My daughter is Abigale Joy with Abigale meaning "a father's joy" which is a bit short sighted because she's my joy too, but somewhat redundant considering her middle name is Joy. :)
