12. getting to know my middle child
born april 23, 1987.
somewhat tough birth, but nothing too serious. couple of crappy days in the beginning. her 18 month old brother was not too thrilled with the whole idea, and her 11 year old big sister (1st marriage) was not all that worked up about it either.
she gave me a hard time then, and she gives me a hard time now. so very middle child.

26. Working in LA, Getting Married in July
Just moved to LA from SF. Working as a computer geek for a big West LA law firm, looking forward to getting married (still married to same lady now in 2005), buying tickets for a Paris honeymoon in August. Waiting to enter law school in LA, fall of 1987. Hated law school, but have been lawyering and loving it since 1991.

Kinda boring but LA was jumpin' in '87, lots of work, lots of money, LA economy booming, good time in my life.

29. I was unemployed
I'd lost my job with a crazy fundie ophthalmologist in El Paso. I spent a few weeks that summer working a couple of shitty low-paying jobs but mostly spent my time drinking beer and going to the movies. I specifically remember going to see "Ernest Goes To Camp" figuring it had to be the low point of my life and after I left the theatre my luck was bound to change.

31. Turned 20 that month
Finished my Spring Semester of my sophomore year of college the month before. It was successful, and marked my first role in a play, Tina Howe's "Museum".

I worked during the summer as a grunt in a furniture warehouse, owned by tightwad fuckers who didn't run the A/C during the week, since we were a clearance branch of a larger store and we only opened on weekends. This was in Norfolk, VA, where the heat and humidity in the summer could be killer. I had a brief episode of heat stroke, where I stopped sweating. I dared them to fire me, as I went to drink cool water the rest of my shift. I kept the job, despite this treatment. There wasn't much opportunity in this area back then, if even now.

That was my last summer in the freeper hellhole of Virginia Beach, VA. Greener pastures awaited me in Seattle the following summer.

It was a good summer outside the job. Went to some local AAA Minor League ballgames, drank like a sailor, and my sister got married.

on vacation in Oklahoma with my family, went out to visit my uncle the carreer Army man before he left for VietNam.

I also had a new boyfriend.

Spent the summer reading, a week at camp as a counselor, visited the new boyfriend in Louisville, he visited us a time or two.

Oh yeah, I was maid of honor in a wedding in August too.
on edit, I need to go to bed, I swear I thought this thing was for 1967!!!

In June 1987 I was still doing all the things I did in Jan 1987 except the weather was warmer and my daughter was older.

Geez do I feel stupid

43. Graduating high school, joining my first "real" band
I had just got out of high school and was preparing to head off to college in the fall. In the meantime, I worked as a bill collector and played guitar and sang in a cheezy "New Romantic" band.

We played a lot of Bowie and Roxy Music, and some Cure and some Duran Duran for good measure. Two of the five of us were still in high school, so we could only play house parties and such. We played quite a few and did okay.

I almost ditched college to stay with this group, but I'm glad I didn't. I later hooked up with 3/4 of these guys the next summer for another band, and I still play in a band with the drummer to this very day.

It was at the end of this summer that my mother took a "temporary" assignment in a town 100 miles away from where we had lived for the past 18 years. A few years later, the assignment became permanent, and we moved out of the only home I'd known for the first 21 years of my life. Kind of a strange summer, that.

I didn't have a boyfriend, I was working in a frozen yogurt shop.

Just being a teenager.

On edit, I think that was right around the time I tried pot for the first time, got involved in a really weird love triangle with my best friend and our pot connection, and started listening to Pink Floyd CONSTANTLY.

I was wearing acid washed denim.

Going to Jack in the Box a lot. Wishing the next year would go by VERY quickly so I could be off to college and out of my parent's house.
