Who has noticed their handwriting has gone to shit due to always typing?

Mine was never anything to write home about (heh...write :D) but I swear, now it's almost indistinguishable from my 4 yr old's... x(

Plus a full minute of writing now gives me unbearable hand cramps. DAMN YOU AL GORE AND YOUR INTERNETS!! :cry:

I used to collect stationery, matching papers and envelopes, etc. I loved writing to people and I think I had a nice hand writing then. But yes, since the friggin "internets" my penmanship has gone to hell! I hate my hand-writing now. :-(

4. I have beautiful penmanship.

My calligraphy is the stuff of gods. A single serif has been known to bring grown men to tears. In fact, I'm writing this right now, using a handwriting-recognition program to format it before uploading my post to the DU.

5. My handwriting has never been good.

I never received high marks for penmanship -- my hands just aren't steady enough. I learned to type when I was 7, which was a good thing -- I would have hated writing if I'd had to do everything longhand.

9. I know what you mean

but I am an elementary teacher and can't afford to let my handwriting get bad. So I still practice. It's like anything else, you have to use it or you will lose it.

10. I have to sign my name probably 8 or 9

times a day and haven't noticed my handwriting getting worse. If anything it looks better than it did ten years ago..

12. My handwriting was never that great to begin with, but...

it has gotten so bad through non-use that, if I do have to leave somebody a note or something, I print it out in block letters, just to assure its legibility. I find that I almost never write (in cursive) at all anymore, except my signature.

Penmanship was taught in school when I was young. I'd fail that class in a heartbeat now.

15. Yup. Mine used to be fairly nice. Now it's darn near unreadable.

And my hand-eye coordination is lousy now, too. And I mis-write characters sometimes. It's not a matter of spelling; I have always been good at that. I know what characters I want to write, but those aren't the ones that go onto the paper sometimes.

Maybe it's not all the fault of the computer... maybe I'm just getting downright old.

That's why starting my 2nd grade year, the school system started to teach me how to type, so the teachers could understand my work and be able to grade it with more accuracy.

My signature is unique -- but not readable. That being said, it is exactly the same every time, and is very difficult to duplicate since it doesn't look like much of anything.

This was actually taught to me be my dad you used to have to sign 100's of checks. It doesn't matter if anyone else can read it, just so long as it is unusual and hard to imitate.

The problem was teachers couldn't grade my work because they couldn't deciper what I was writing, and then when they ask me for clarification.. I myself couldn't read what I was writing. I had a dexerity problem that caused this writing problem (I can't think of the exact term at the moment forgive me) so pretty much they were giving me failing grades do to unreadable assignments (Nevermind it was a legitimate medical reason) so finally my Mom asked if they would put me in a typing program, and after a threat of a lawsuit, they finally agreed to do so.

19. Sort of.

When I first "computerized" in the 80s, I was in charge of, among other things, a lot of data entry. There was no point and click; to get to one thing that needed to be changed, I had to hit "enter" through a dozen or so fields; over and over and over, with the pinky on my right hand. After a couple of years, my right wrist was never the same. It gets sore after too much typing, but it only takes hand writing a couple of sentences to start aching. And the neater I write, the more it hurts. Since I have to do a lot of writing by hand, when correcting students' papers, I don't write neatly. The wrist lasts longer that way.
