Wow, the remake of "Stepford Wives" manages to insult everyone!

All women are emasculating social climbers who use their husbands to advance their careers.

All men are whining misogynists who want nothing more than to have Betty Crocker in 5" pastel stilettos bow to their every command.

And the hackneyed revenge fantasy at the end was straight out of that Flintstones episode when the Ladies Aucilliary of the Water Buffalo Lodge revolt agains their husbands.


I've seen both versions of the movie, but never read the Ira Levin book. Which movie is more faithful to the book?

But I haven't seen either version of the movie. The book is great, though.

2. I saw the new version as a parody of the Stepford Wives, but also

a lampoon of live-t.v. shows and power moms. (And believe me, there are some fierce power moms out there.)

I enjoyed both in different ways.

6. No, Desperate Housewives is Sex and the City ten years in the future.

There's the tramp (Samantha, divorced), the everygirl one (Carrie, divorce with a kid), stressed out Miranda type if she quit her job, and the trophy wife (Charlotte if she would have stayed with her first husband).

What a ripoff!

But I still watch it if I'm around...

5. The 1975 version, definitely

The earlier movie ends the same way as the book and doesn't have all those stereotypical side characters, like the Bette Midler character and whoever played the gay man.

I hated the remake, and I'm so glad that I didn't have to pay to see it, since it was on the inflight "entertainment" for my flight to Japan this past fall.

8. I've never seen the remake, but I was under the impression that

the Bette Midler character was supposed to be the character played by Paula Prentiss in the original.

I really have no desire to see the remake.

7. IMHO

The remake is supposed to be a spoof, not to be taken seriously. I adored the gay wife. He and Nicole Kidman and Bette Midler were a hoot.
