Worst song ever?
I don't know why, but at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony tonight, just about every time someone rose from the audience and headed for the stage to accept an award, they played Tom Jones' "What's New, Pussycat?"

I swear, I was ready to kick in the boob tube. I hated that song the first time I heard it, and really, really hate it now.

Worst song ever.

Others nominations?

"Pimp Juice" has to be the worst song ever recorded. I was prepared to say "What's New Pussycat?" as well, until I saw that Champ had mentioned this one.

19. Ick
This is the sound of my brain
Then I said -This is the sound of my brain on Don Henley
Then I said -One two three four

He's a tortured artist
Used to be in the eagles
Now he whines like a wounded beagle

Poet of despair
Puffed up with hot air
He's serious, pretentious and I just don't care

Don henley must die
Don't let him get back together
With Glenn Frey, Don Henley must die

Cut on the TV
And what did I see
This bloated hairy thing winnin' a grammy
Huah

Best rock vocalist
Compared to what
Bunch of pseudo-serious Kraft angst-a-matic
Satanic plot

Don Henley Must die
Put a sharp stick in his eye, don henley must die
Ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh

Quit playin' that crap
Youíre out of the band

I'm only kidding, can't you tell?
I love his sensitve music
Idiot poetry swell

You and your kind
Are killin' rock and roll
It's not because youíre o-l-d
--Cause you ain't
Got no soul

Don't be afraid of fun
Loosen up your ponytail
Be wild, young
Free and-a
Get your head
Outta your tail

Don Henley
Must die
Donít let him get back together
With Glenn Frey

Don Henley
Must die
Put him in the electric chair
Watch him fry, Don Henley must die

Don Henley must die
Ah ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya

No Eagles reunion
The same goes for you too Sting
Ah
Oh

Just plain awful. Why is it that someone dying suddenly turns the steaming pile of excrement that is their body of work into something sacred? If Ashlee Simpson were to die tragically tomorrow, suddenly she would be elevated to Jim Morrison status.

People, as a rule, are stupid. I become more and more convinced of this as I get older.:silly:

64. harry chapin was pretty popular, and was becoming more so, before he died.
and he certainly hasn't been memorialized the way, say, the doors have been.

harry chapin had a distinctive songwriting style and told stories in a way no one else really does. he earned his stature, even if, yes, his songs are overly sappy.

56. Misogynistic lyrics
A lot of jazz musicians play "Wives & Lovers" as an instrumental, but if you hear the lyrics, they're really backward:

Hey, little girl,
Comb your hair, fix your make-up.
Soon he will open the door.
Don't think because
There's a ring on your finger,
You needn't try any more

For wives should always be lovers, too.
Run to his arms the moment he comes home to you.
I'm warning you.

Day after day,
There are girls at the office,
And men will always be men.
Don't send him off
With your hair still in curlers.
You may not see him again.

For wives should always be lovers, too.
Run to his arms the moment he comes home to you.
He's almost here.

Hey, little girl
Better wear something pretty,
something you'd wear to go to the city.
And dim all the lights,
Pour the wine, start the music.
Time to get ready for love.

Oh, time to get ready,
Time to get ready,
Time to get ready
For love.

I'd love to hear somebody (Tom Waits? Polly Jean Harvey?) do a really sinister version of this song!

65. as usual, the original (jacque brel) is far superior:

It is so bad I love it!
some truly immortal lyrics:

MacArthur Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

106. The new version is much better.
Nena re-released it and a friend sent me a copy from Germany.

It's much more... Alanis Morrisette or 10,000 Maniacs, with just a hint of Pearl Jam. It works far better than it did as a synthpop New Wave happy bouncy song... and it always worked better in German.

58. Crawling-Linkin Park
crawling in my skin
these wounds they will not heal
fear is how I fall
confusing what is real

there's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
consuming/confusing
this lack of self-control I fear is never ending
controlling/I can't seem

to find myself again
my walls are closing in
(without a sense of confidence and I'm convinced that there's just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
so insecure

crawling in my skin
these wounds they will not heal
fear is how I fall
confusing what is real

discomfort, endlessly has pulled itself upon me
distracting/reacting
against my will I stand beside my own reflection
it's haunting how I can't seem...

to find myself again
my walls are closing in
(without a sense of confidence and I'm convinced that there's just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
so insecure

crawling in my skin
these wounds they will not heal
fear is how I fall
confusing what is real

crawling in my skin
these wounds they will not heal
fear is how I fall
confusing confusing what is real

there's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
consuming/confusing what is real

69. I haven't heard that particular song,
Edited on Mon Jan-17-05 04:30 PM by drumwolf
but if it's by Stinkin' Park, I'll take your word for it.

There's bad songs that I love because it's so cheesy and I can use it to annoy other people, like the songs I listed in a previous response on this thread, along with William Shatner and Barney the dinosaur. And yes, I have all of them on CD or mp3.

Then there's also bad music that simply makes me want to beat the shit out of anyone who forces me to hear it. Linkin Park falls into this category.

Reach out in the darkness
(Friend and Lover)
Hot tip:You can sing this song with a PC karaoke player!
With Microke you can sing Friend and Lover songs and much more
See www.microke.com for details.

Lyric:

I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I think it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I think it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend
I knew a man that I did not care for
And then one day this man gave me a call
We sat and talked about things on our mind
And now this man he is a friend of mine
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I think it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I think it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
Don't be afraid of love
Don't be afraid, don't be afraid to love
Everybody needs a little love
Everybody needs somebody
That they can be thinking of
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I think it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I think it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I think it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together

Excellently parodied by Radiohead's "Idioteque"

Discotheque

You can reach
But you can't grab it
You can't hold it control it
You can't bag it
You can push
But can't direct it
Circulate regulate oh no
You can not connect it
You know you're chewing bubble gum
You know what that is but you still want some
You just can't get enough
Of that lovey dovey stuff
You get confused
But you know it
Yeah you hurt for it work for it LOVE
You don't always show it
Let go, let's go
Discotheque
Go go, let go
Discotheque
Looking for the one
But you know you're somewhere else instead
You want to be the song
The song that you hear in your head
Love
It's not a trick
You can't learn it
It's the way you don't pay that's okay
'Cause you can't earn it
You know you're chewing bubble gum
You know what that is but you still want some
'Cause you can't get enough
Of that lovey dovey stuff
Let go, let's go

Looking for the one
But you know you're somewhere else instead
I want to be the song
The song that you hear in your head

But you take what you can get
'Cause it's all that you can find
Oh you know there's something more
Tonight tonight tonight

114. No, I have you all beat with Charlene
"I've Never Been To Me"

Hey lady, you lady
cursing at your life
You're a discontented mother
and a regimented wife
I've no doubt you dream about
the things you'll never do
But,
I wish someone had a talked to me
like I wanna talk to you.....

Ooh I've been to Georgia and California
and, anywhere I could run
Took the hand of a preacher man
and we made love in the sun
but I ran out of places
and friendly faces
because I had to be free
I've been to paradise
but I've never been to me...

Please lady, please, lady
don't just walk away
'cause I have this need to tell you
why I'm all alone today
I can see so much of me
still living in your eyes
won't you share a part
of a weary heart
that has lived million lies.......

Ooh I've been to Nice and the Isle of Greece
while I've sipped champagne on a yacht
I moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo
and showed 'em what I've got
I've been undressed by kings
and I've seen some things
that a woman ain't supposed to see.......
I've been to paradise,
but I've never been to me.......

Hey, you know what paradise is?
It's a lie.
A fantasy we create about
people and places as we'd like them to be.
But you know what truth is?
it's that little baby you're holding and
it's that man you fought with this morning
the same one you're going to make love with tonight
that's truth, that's love.........

Sometimes I've been to crying for unborn children
that might have made me complete
but I.....I took the sweet life
I never knew
I'd be bitter from the sweet
I've spent my life exploring
the subtle whoring
that costs too much to be free....
hey lady......
I've been to paradise......
but I've never been to me.........

I've been to paradise
but I've never been to me....

I've been to paradise
but I've never been to me..
