Is Carnivale (HBO) the most effed up show you have ever watched?
I am not talking about the carnies on the show...the lizard man with the tail, the bearded woman, etc.

I am talking about it just making very little sense. Is the preacher supposed to be the evil guy, and the drifter the good guy, or vice versa.

It has a simple plot...a dichotomous battle between good and evil...it is just taking a screwy journey to get to that battle.

Can someone give me some insight on the show?

1. Maybe the plot's not that simple
After all, we haven't figured everything out yet. Yeah, I think the preacher is evil, the drifter is good (and maybe the reincarnation of some dead WW1 guy), but I'd bet that they've got surprises in store.

I'm willing to give it some more time. Half the fun's getting there, right?

I also really like the idea of making a show with only 12 episodes, like they do in other countries. It gives it more of a mini-series feel, or a long movie, in that it has a definite ending.

2. Nope
Twin Peaks is still a mess to my mind. With Carnivale, you can sense the beginnings of story arcs. But Twin Peaks always seemed like Lynch was making it up as he went along. The 'Fire Walk With Me' flick is proof of that I think; Lynch just quickly sewed things up in a couple of hours, leaving lots of stuff unfinished. What the hell was the 'White Lodge' anyway?

3. I think it's a great show
Creepiest I've seen since the old X-Files.

:)
