12. i don't complain that they make the money.

i'm always just a little confused over picking sides and cheering for a team. these teams and players show no allegiance to the cities or populaces that they "represent" so i just can't spare the energy to care if my city's team is doing well. (a safe bet for me....i live in los angeles.)

if someone really just enjoys the game and enjoys watching a well-played match....i can understand that. it's the team fanatics that lose me.

....i like the star wars prequels, so my opinions on other people's obsessions are highly suspect.

i admit, a friend of mine is a boston red sox fan.....so watching his face light up when they won this year was pretty nice. but my understanding is that this was like the sighting of haley's comet. a once-in-a-generation thing.

I hated football in college--because I knew college football players! Now that I've had a few years to distance myself and can just watch the game without thinking about what the players are like off the field I have a great time.

Tailgating when it's so cold you have to pound your beer so that it doesn't freeze in the bottleneck...ah yes, one of life's more rarefied pleasures!

We're often buddies who go way back, and I was nearly a football player myself but I have a heart condition so alas.

but I drove cab as a part-time job and damned if it didn't seem like most of the players thought they had to uphold some kind of tough-guy meathead image. That gets old in a hurry.

And the one O-lineman I lived with was just a flat-out dick.
