Happy Days Originated as a segment on "Love, American Style" (1969).

It is a common belief that American Graffiti (1973) was the inspiration for this series. In actuality, the pilot for the series (seen on "Love, American Style") aired before George Lucas began production for "Graffiti". However, the success of "Graffiti" caused producer Garry Marshall to reconsider his failed pilot and turn "Happy Days" into a series.

Shortly after the original pilot (which aired on "Love, American Style") went unsold, George Lucas released American Graffiti (1973), a theatrical film with a similar nostalgia theme. The original TV show started in the 50's. Then a break and then again in the 60's another break and then again in the 90's.

And there were two movies. One serious with the 60's cast in 1967. And another in 1987 was a comedy with Aykroyd and Hanks.
