Poll question: How Often Do You Floss?

My dentist just gave me a lesson on flossing today. I was shocked. Not that I floss regularily, but she showed me that the way I was doing it was wrong. I am not going to try to floss daily to prevent cavities!

How often do YOU floss?

1. Twice a day.

..Not to brag, but I always get a clean bill of dental health twice a year. :)

My mother spent the equivalent of the GNP of Haiti on my teeth and I feel I had better maintain them...

3. I try to do it daily but it works out closer to every other day

4. Intermittently.

When I remember or have something stuck in my teeth. Maybe on average 3 times a week. But strange you should ask because I just finished flossing about 5 minutes ago.

5. At least twice a year. And, I only floss the teeth I want to keep!

6. Funny you should ask as I'm sitting here trying to

get a piece of dry cereal out of my teeth, knowing I need to go floss, 'cause my tongue is not going to dislodge it. What did we do before dental floss?

8. I once read long ago

about, in cultures without toothbrushes, they would chew some kind of stringy bark or something to dislodge food particles.

I remember a dentist telling me it was more important to floss than to even brush.

Yes, I'm the nerd who actually carries small containers of floss in her purse.

9. I'm obsessive about it - I floss 5 or 6 times a day, more when I am

stressed. When I was pregnant, I flossed almost continuously. It got to be a real jode in the family.

I love to have good dental hygiene!

I feel weird if I cannot floss everyday.

10. We use a water pik.

It seems to work as well, if not better, and does not aggrevate our incipient cases of carpal tunnel (in DH) and muscular weakness (in me) in our hands. The gums don't bleed as much, either, and there's no unpleasant... odor that I remember from when I did floss regularly.

11. Flossing not only prevents cavities

but also saves your gums. And remember, if you need false teeth, it's not because of decay, it's because of gum disease.

I spent several hours over Christmas having my teeth deep cleaned to prevent gum disease. So I can't floss enough these days.
