1. get Lasik

You can't do anything about the age-related farsightedness but you can get your distance vision back. I went from bifocals to not needing glasses at all, however, now that several years have passed I do need reading glasses again. However, my distance and middle vision is still GREAT.

No reason to go through life looking through little slits when the technology exists to do something about it and quite cheaply now compared to the ongoing costs of bifocals and trifocals.

I thought lasik was useless on astigmatic eyes?

Can the lasik idea. It's only temporary (your eyes age just like the rest of you and with age comes more change) and the risk is still too great for my peace of mind.

9. Trifocals can be a good thing.

They're especially useful when dieting. If you hold your head "just right" it looks as though you have three of everything on your plate. The upside of this is that you eat one portion, but trick your brain into thinking you had three of everything. Sucks when you're counting things, though.

Your vision won't deteriorate any further, and you'l absolutely love them.

The Toric lenses - for astigmatics - are terrific.

Don't despair - it's not that big a deal, but, whatever you do, avoid the Lasix surgery. I've seen too many screwups and bad results in my office ever to recommend it to anyone. My own ophthamologist says, "Anything that can be done a strip mall is probably not a good idea."

I can relate to the astigmatism thing. How many times have you poked your eyes ( as I have) because your depth perception bites?

Somebody told me "we just get older, we don't get no better" but I'm holding out hope...But trifocals. Jeez Louise!

5. I vote for lasik if you can.

I have zero regrets. I was myopic and astigmatic, with presbyopia looming, and got the first 2 taken care of. I threw in the towel when I went for my second prescription for the bi-focals.

Astigmatism couldn't be treated in the earlier eye surgeries, but now it often can be.
