i bought a 73 olds 98 from a woman who parked it in the garage after having a fender-bender in it on her first drive in it after her husband's death. she was scared to drive it, and there it sat for 12+ years, until i bought it(in 1982, for $400, with only 18,000 miles on it.
I went to several junkyards looking for a new hood and front right quarter panel...what i found was a 72 delta 88 that had the same frontend bolt pattern as the '73 98. For $125, i got the entire front end, including bumper from the delta 88.
the 98 was metallic blue, and the delta 88 was yellow, and two days later i had replaced the whole front end, and had me a mighty sweet ride at a low low cost.

It's not quite out in hybrid yet, but I'd happily go on the waiting list. :) For that matter, I have no idea if one can get the 8 passenger and AWD options with the hybrid, Toyota is wierd when it comes to option packages.

Nobody make fun of my practical tastes, please. I need a sporty two seater or a gas guzzling muscle car about as much as a snake needs pantyhose. I'd rather get a car that's safe and reliable and has room enough for a family and all our crap even if we wind up having another kid or two.

I have only ever had TWO new cars in my whole life.. a 1973 Ford Maverick (we sold our 1968 GTO, and traded in a 1964 Falcon covertible to buy it :eyes:)..

Our oldest son has never forgiven us for that faux pas.. The Maverick was HIS first car.. We bought it when I was 3 months pregnant with him, so his first car was one he rode in before he was even born :) He did love that little car though,.. It finally "died" 2 years ago..



and a 1979 Chevy station wagon ( a L E M O N )... so we have always bought "gently used" ones after that,.,Maintain them.. drive them until they cost too much to fix, and then get another one :) We HATE HATE HATE car payments
