Did Rush Limbaugh's comments...
Poll for "Did Rush Limbaugh's comments about quarterback Donovan McNabb warrant his resignation from ESPN?" is on the front page of www.cnn.com

Huh? See results.

1. Absolutely not.
Rush is an abhorant blowhard, but the comments he made did not warrent his resignation, nor even an apology.

3. No, they warranted him getting fired, IMO.
His black cohosts were pissed, every black player and many white players in the league were pissed. Just exactly how likely are players going to be to talk to ESPN if it appears they tolerate this kind of bullshit?

8. Tha may be.
However, I would disagree there as well. So they were pissed big deal. His comment, while objectionable to some, was not racist. Nor was it necessarily bullshit.

4. How so?

You know I keep re-reading the comment that got Limbaugh in hot water and I think "In some ways he had a valid point" McNabb isn't doing well this year and our defense (which has lost some key players)should take alot of credit for the success we've had these past 2 years" In fact I can even agree that McNabb has received alot of attention from the media which has helped hype the Superstar status of McNabb.

But where Rush was so totally wrong about that comment was the use of McNabb's skin color.

Look at his statement:

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

If he just gave it a second thought and talked about the HYPE that McNabb as a person (eliminate the race issue) received from the Media, his point is dead-center on the mark.

He should be hung from his toenails - that comment was totally unacceptable!

9. I agree with you - string him up
I don't follow your team or McNabb, but didn't he have an ankle injury last year or this summer? Might that not contribute to mediocre play? If this is correct then perhaps ESPN is (regardless of racist commentary) better off without an analyst who coudln't take that into account.

11. Again...disagree.
If the color of his skin was salient to the commetns made then he was correct in using it. McNabb being a black quarterback is used frequently when speaking well of him, and I find that at least as racist and objectionable.

I said it yesterday...waht we need to do is quit looking at his skin color at all. Liberals as well as conservatives are equally guilty of this. So are racists and "non-racists".

The comment was objectionable to some, but it was definately not "totally unacceptable".

2. Rush was stoned when he made those comments
Give him a break. He was probably so high on oxycontin he didn't know what he was saying.

btw - Newsmax (and some others I've seen) are spining the story as being about an investigation into his "addiction to painkillers"; not that he is a drug addict. If he weren't who he is; he'd already be in the Graybar Hotel.

5. Don't you just love how the
hypocritical right defends drug users and abusers within their own ranks, coming up with all kinds of excuses and reasons, and saying that the poor little misunderstood darlings just need treatment and never mind those draconian drug laws we insist on enacting and enforcing, those are just for those America-hating, commie loser democrats? Noelle Bush remains a prime example of such heavy hypocrisy.

14. Why do you say it's been freeped?
Simply because the people answering don't think Rush should have resigned? I am far from being a Freeper and I voted no. I absolutely despise Rush, and I still voted no.

12. Never shoulda been hired...
in the first damn place. He doesn't have any more validity as a sports commentator than I do (hell, he may have less considering that I've actually played in leagues for a lot of different sports).

If they really wanted a fan perspective they could have gotten it in any number of ways besides hiring that gasbag.

On it's face the comment might or might not have been "racist", however, given what we know about Rush and his history of racist comments I think it's pretty reasonable to assume racist intent on his part.

Yes, McNabb may be over-rated. And yes, I'm sure there are plently of people who would like to see him, and other black quarterbakcs, do well to help dispell the historical belief that blacks don't make good QBs. Guess what? I'm a Dallas fan so I've also seen first-hand how many people want to see Quincy Carter fail just because he is black. It's ugly.

What's sad and ridiculous is the way each individual black QB is held up as an example of all black QBs. Seeing the group in the individual is racism. When a white QB sucks (yet continues to be a starter) it isn't used to comment on ALL white QBs in the league.

*sigh* I'm running on and I'm gonna stop now.

13. I strongly disagree with the use of the word "resignation".
Usually when someone f**ks up as bad as he did they are given the facts of life. Either you resign quietly so as to not create an embarrassment for all concerned or we'll fire your ass. Obviously Diarrhea Mouth is not a complete idiot. He chose the path of least resistance. Why ABC/ESPN chose to make a d**khead like this a football commentator I'll never understand. Frankly, he lasted longer than I thought he would.

15. poll is gone
I bet they took it off after a few votes tipped the answer to yes. Strange but Rush is always lies and lies to cover his lies, why should we all be shocked to hear him say something of this nature, he is jerk to begin with. It's like giving a Republican enough rope to well make an a$$ out of themselves b/c Rush is...
