post your traffic peeves here!
I was running errands late this morning, and one of my least favorite things in traffic happened.

I was making a right turn on a green light, and the car on the opposite side of the intersection, apparently running a red light, or red arrow, was making a left turn - meaning he was going onto the same street as me.

That wouldn't have been so bad if they knew how to stay in their lane! I stayed in the right (of 2 lanes) lane as I turned, and as he was turning, in the middle of the intersection, he changed lanes, and came over to the right as well - NEARLY CLIPPING MY REAR!

:nuke:

Share your near-incidents of private road rage here!

1. As a Pedestrian/Bicyclist
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 12:14 PM by youngred
PEOPLE WHO DON'T USE THEIR FUCKING TURN SIGNALS.

Fine, I'll wait for you at the crosswalk so as not to go to the hospital but at least you could have the decency to take the .3 seconds and slight movement to turn it on so you don't have to kill me. and then to make it worse THEY BEEP AT ME when they make the turn without signaling. As though I'm supposed to fucking know they were intending on turning. arrogant shit-wits.

BTW, I've been hit 3 times on my bike in situations similar to this, its more than an annoyance.

Oh and the F*cking Hummer. Thatpisses me off

to leave unflattering notes on a car with a Bush/Cheney 2004 bumper sticker.

I refrained

You're presuming they can read, and that the note would be understood. :-)

when there is a bike path right next to the road.

7. that "little wave"
I live in northern cali now, but grew up in Texas. Was raised to give that "little wave" when someone lets you over in traffic. It's just the polite thing to do, right?

Why can't everyone in America do that? Doesn't take much effort, but it makes everyone around you feel good.

Ugh. why why why WHY?!

16. Cyclists going the wrong way on a one-way street
cyclists and pedestrians not crossing at intersections

pedestrians crossing against the "DO NOT WALK"

drivers blocking the right lane only lane when they're not going right

drivers going right on red w/o stopping first

drivers that tailgate and then ride the brake

drivers who refuse to pull over and let others pass

and anyone--driver, clyclist or pedestrian--who actually makes an effort to piss anyone else off.

8. Here's 10 of mine.
1. People who don't know how to use highway on-ramps. They go 20 mph until they have to merge, then they expect traffic to brake and let them merge, then they accelerate to 55. Very dangerous.

2. People who drive 50mph in the fast lane. Also people who use the fast lane all the time and don't know that it's the law that it's only supposed to be used for passing.

3. SUV's making left turns. When I'm behind them in my car I can't see any oncoming traffic.

4. People who change lanes dozens of times per mile in rush hour traffic. Also, people who don't check their blind spot.

5. People who make left turns from the right lane on a two lane, one way street while I'm right next to them in the left lane. It's happened to me twice.

6. Ricers who want to race me even though my car isn't riced out.

7. Ricer exhaust pipes.

8. Sport bike riders who do wheelies on the street and think they're cool.

9. Hummer drivers, and hummer parkers. There was a hummer at my old work that used to park in two spaces. A few times I was able to squeeze my tiny car into the space next to it, about 6 inches from the hummer's door. :)

10. People who drive "dualies" in the city, you know the pickups with 4 wheels on the back. What's the friggin point of that?

10. Far and away the biggest pisser for me.
Stuck in rush hour traffic on the freeway in the right lane, you see some asshole behind you pull into the exit lane, pass 20 cars, then try to merge back in. Fucking inconsiderate selfish assholes. Like 20 fucking seconds of their worthless, selfish life is so much more important than the 20 people they fucking passed. Ignorant jerks.

11. Humans are a stupid lot....
especially behind the wheel of the car.
-If you don't use your turn signal, and I hit you, don't bitch. ITS YOUR FAULT!!
-It is not legal for you to do a left turn or a U turn on a red light, even if there's no one coming, and you're waiting on the left turn light. And if I hit you when you do this, it's your fucking fault.
-If you're driving in the fast lane and you're not going the speed limit, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY!! The FAR RIGHT lane is for you slow ass idiots.
-If you're getting onto the interstate, please speed up...that's why the Entrance ramp is so long...so you can get up to speed and merge without killing someone. And if someone is trying to merge, and it's possible, get the hell over. There's nothing wrong with letting someone in. You won't lose your mind if you're polite to others.
-If you're on a two lane highway, and you're going 45, don't freaking SPEED up when I try to go around you. I'm not going to be in your way in about five seconds. YOU are in MY way...so slow the fuck back down and go away.
-If you're going to pass me, pass me. Don't get up on my ass and swerve the last second BEFORE you hit me. And when you go to get back in front of me, don't do it so fast that I'm going to rear end you. This is rude behavior, and if we were to hit each other, there's a pretty good chance one of us is going to die.
-A note to Truckers: You do not own this road. If you're going to get on my ass and try to bully me out the way, I'm going to slow down and stay even with the person in the right lane just so you can get pissed off. You don't need to go eighty. You don't need to bully cars just because you're bigger than them. My father was a trucker and he never had any accidents. He drove over 10 Million miles in the course of his career and was constantly sited for courteous behavior. If you want to make it in this world, then be nice to people. Don't fuck with people just because you drive a bigger vehicle than they do. We know you are in a hurry and you want to go home. Chances are, so do we.
-When you are turning onto a street, be patient. Don't just hurry up and turn then go freaking 2 miles an hour. There's probably no one behind me for blocks. If I'm going 45 and you pull out in front of me and go 15 miles an hour, there's a good chance you could get hit or something. Or you're going to piss me off, and I might have a gun.

In closing, if you're being rude, GET OFF THE FUCKING ROAD! :grr: Hehe
Duckie

12. slow lane commandos..
the folks who are so deathly terrified to merge into traffic on the freeway, that they just drive in the number four lane, making it difficult to merge onto, or exit the freeway yourself.

13. Mine
People who catch up to you 30 mph faster than you going, switch lanes at the last possible second and almost take of you rear bumper, then cut back in front of you and almost take off you front bumper.

Also, people who talk on their cell phones and swerve from side to side.

15. Two gripes, one hint...
Just two...

The folks on the highway on-ramp need to remember that they yield to the folks on the highway, not the other way around.

If you drive like a bat out of hell in the fast lane and then believe you're going to succesfully change lanes to exit the highway in the space of less than 200 feet, I'll make a point to find a date to your funeral...

As an aside, I saw a documentary about driving on PBS about three years ago and though I don't remember anything else from it, one thing has always stayed in mind because IT WORKS!...

If someone behind you is starting to get a little too close, slow down by 5 m.p.h and you extend your right arm across the passenger's seat (as if you're about to put your arm around an invisible person sitting there), in all likelyhood, the person behind you will back off. I have no idea why, but this really does work. I'd guesstimate it's about 85% succesful in my case and I live in TX where incivility on the road is as popular as deep frying anything.

18. Those slimy intergalactic fuckwads who have that bumpersticker:
'I support President George W. Bush and our troops'.

If they want to support the troops, why don't they go drive Humvees in Iraq? I understand Humvee drivers are getting rather thin on the ground over there. Put your filthy blood money where your skanky mouths are, freepers!

21. It's always something.
I guess right now my #1 gripe is (on 2-3 lane roads) people who find themselves behind a commuter bus or a car turning right would rather risk an accident by suddenly swerving into the next lane than to slow down and/or (Gawd forbid) have to stop for a second. I've narrowly missed being nailed by these thoughtless buggers more times than I care to think about.

On the interstate it bugs me when people get into the left lane to pass a slower car and don't either override or turn off their cruise control. It's aggrevating to be behind someone going 70 mph (on cruise) while they sloooooooowly pass the car beside them going 67. HIT THE ACCELERATOR, YOU MORAN!!
