Granted, there's only a few of them over there in GD, berating those of us who seem to think that Rush going down is important and should be discussed. To those of you intent on ignoring him; do you realize what a force he is on the right? How long he has been basically our chief enemy? Without him, lots of things change.

I have a hint for you snobs - if you don't like the fact that there are threads about Rush, why not start threads on the REALLY IMPORTANT things that we SHOULD be talking about, oh all-knowing ones? Better yet - JUST FUCKING IGNORE THOSE THREADS.

I realize that's hard for you, just take a deep breath, clear your head, and do it.

From all the candidate bashing we have experienced over the past few months. Also, there are only so many threads we can have talking about the Wilson ordeal. Rush *is* the news of the day and I would expect that DU would be talking about it.

snobs always putting the Lounge down, thinking they know better than the rest of us, the great unwashed masses, always complaining on GD about the "trite, inconsequential, tasteless, or ridiculous" threads. Like we have to be gloom and doom all the time, or like the only subjects that matter are the ones THEY think should matter.

They don't like it, DON'T READ THE FUCKING THREAD! They have that choice, and they don't have the right to make that choice for everyone else. They have the right to determine what they themselves read. If they don't like a thread, that's fine, they have the right not to, but they DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DETERMINE THAT FOR EVERYONE ELSE. Sheesh, it's such a simple concept. You don't like something, fine, don't read/watch/listen to/buy it. But DO NOT make the determination that no one else has the right to read/watch/listen to/buy it as well, based on what YOU think! It always amazes me that those who consider themselves liberal/progressive/tolerant then turn around and want to do what they castigate the right for doing, which is determining what people have the right to read/watch/listen to/buy based on what THEY think!

It's really quite simple: We're liberals (or if some prefer, non-conservatives) and we will naturally fall all over ourselves with glee when he simultaneously resigns from ESPN and allegations of illegal prescription drug purchases surface.

Playing into Rove's hands? Rove has millions of ways he can spin himself out of the CIA flap, but getting Limbaugh canned and in hot water is far, far from how. The headlines have enough room for every negative anti-Republican story we can find. It isn't like negative material about the GOP is in short supply. :-)

I think the deal some people have with you is not that you believe Rove is all-powerful, but that you were policing the content of the threads AND assigning a label of dupes and fools for Rove to us. We're not dupes, puppets, or fools. We're passionate and reasonable people by and large on here.

I don't think it's a distraction; at least not for DU. It's simply an additional story. I think most people here can juggle a few juicy stories without losing the significance or relevance of any them while doing that.

I certainly believe that the Wilson story and Iraq are of greater fundamental importance to us, but the Rush story allows us the guilty pleasure of gloating.

I haven't forgotten soldiers and civilians are dying in Iraq for no good reason. I haven't forgotten that Wilson has magnified a weak link in *'s armor. And I'm not going to forget that Schwarzeneger (sp?) is the next likely governor of California.

But do give some of us some credit for being able to concentrate on more than one or two stories at a time.

I've never given him credibility. But a lot of people do. Hell, I'd probably not have attributed credibility to Joseph Goebbels, but a lot of people did. It's for their sake that I'm happy. Maybe the light bulb will being appearing over some of their heads. Let's hope :)

Let's face it - Rush Limbaugh is (hopefully was) the King of the neo-conservative pundits out there. There were other neo-cons in the media before him and I'm sure more will come and fill his place. But without a doubt, Rush took bashing liberals and democrats to a new artform and opened the doors to make folks like Savage, Hannity, Coulter, Ingram, Olsen, D'Nisha, Brock (when he was on their team) and others like them a "legimate" part of the Media. Ann Coulter can suggest we kill Muslim leaders or blow up the New York Times building and she still gets regular stints on the morning shows of ABC/NBC/CBS. They give television shows to hacks like Savage (who blew his opportunity) and Hannity. These other people are succesful because Rush did it first and got 20million people listening to his show.

This whole McNabb stories is very significant because Rush was exposed to a regular viewing audience that may not have any inclinations towards politics. Hopefully between this and the Oxycontin story (you know one of the street names for OxyContin is Hillbilly Herion) we can knock the king off his pedestal. Sure, a new king (or queen) might come in and take his place. But could anyone fill his shoes with what he did?

I think this whole thing with Rush will make a major blow to the neo-conservative shrills credibility to the mainstream media. When people start thinking Rush is bad, hopefully they'll catch on with the rest of them!!
