In his book about the Clinton '92 campaign, Better than Sex, Hunter S. Thompson stated that - even then - he still judged people based on how they had voted in 1960.

Will it be the same for you thirty or so years down the line?

In 1930s Germany people may have had an excuse for ignorance of what was truly happening. In modern times with access to the Internet available almost everywhere in the US, there is no excuse for not finding out what is going on within our government.

People seem to know the most minute statistic when it comes to sports but little when it comes to things done in their name.

There are a lot of friends and acquaintances with whom I just don't talk politics, so I don't really know where they stand. Our association is based on other factors. But I was shocked and disappointed this time around, to learn that some of the people I'd have thought better of, were Shrub voters. They're not visibly right-wing in their daily life, or I would have nothing to do with them - so I can compartmentalize to the point where I can put it aside and just focus on what we have in common. But somewhere in the back of my mind, I suspect, will always be the knowledge, "You voted for Dubya back in '04," or "You couldn't be bothered to vote at all because you didn't think it mattered." There's an element of negative judgement attached to that, certainly. Even though those cases were just ignorance, rather than an outright support for the Chimp's ideology.

On the other hand, if someone were to see the light, I'd certainly not hold their past against them....
