(LA/Ventura County border) to San Juan Capistrano. She's sure she's the only Dem for miles. She never talks politics with her rabid repuke neighbors - sure they'd vandalize her property if they knew.
Don't know how she can stand it.

What keeps my neighborhood balanced is that many of the people work in the entertainment business as technical types, so lots of union and progressive influence.

You go anywhere in Chicago and the only Republican who might represent you is one alderman (out of 50) who represents the Northwest area by O'Hare. Even his seat is very safe. The following Democrats represent me:

As a matter of fact that only Republicans that represent me are Judy Barr Topinka (State Treasurer) and the worse one of them all: President George W. Bush. Now if we could only get rid of Topinka and Bush I would be 100% Republican free. Man do I love this town!

On edit: Chicago hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1927. We don't put up with that kind of shit here.

The Labour Party is absolutely nowhere here, the only opposition is from the Liberal Democrats and they've got no chance of anything in this village.

The city overall around 65 percent, the county 55 or so and the state of Michigan went Dem 52-48.

I live in one of the more Democratic areas of Texas; more Democratic meaning my county voted 64-percent for Bush rather than 80-percent like most "small town", rural areas in Texas. We're a traditionally "southern Democrat" area (meaning fairly liberal on economic issues- pro-working people, if not always pro-social programs, and conservative on most social issues) but have become more and more Republican with Bush becoming Governor and President. People buy into the bullshit promoted by him and his campaign, like him and in turn vote more Republican for other races as well. The county next to mine, Jefferson, still hung in there and went for Kerry by a couple points this year (the only county in East Texas to do so); the Democrats still do alright there because of the large minority population.

I live in one of the most gay-friendly, liberal precincts in the entire city of Minneapolis, MN-- itself an extremely liberal city. My state Senate district has been represented by two openly gay men since the 80s. IIRC Dennis Kucinich got over 30% of the vote in the caucuses in the city of Minneapolis last year. In fact, we had several precincts where he got over 50% of the vote.

This campaign season, I maybe saw two Dubya signs, and at least 70 K/E signs, at a minimum. And NO Nader/Camejo signs.

I am in an upper-middle class Chicago burb, and our local politics is all GOP, but I saw an ENORMOUS shift in presidential yard signs this time. From 80-20 Bush-Gore to ~55-45 Kerry-Bush.

Even though it has a reputation as being practically Communist compared to the rest of the country, the Bay Area isn't as overwhelmingly blue as people think. Especially in the suburban areas in the outskirts of the Peninsula and the East Bay, we have a visible and outspoken freeper presence.

My congresscritter Jim McDermott and my precinct voted 83% for Kerry with an 89% turnout. I should not take any credit for it but I will since I am the PCO :)

The problem here is that with so many Dems and assorted lefties around all the time, people are insulated from just how twisted the red areas are. It is time to wake up a realize that just showing up at the polls is not enough anymore. We have to get aggressive about registering voters and keeping the neighborhood aware of stuff the networks don't find "sexy" enough to cover.

I have lived in red states and grew up in NC (home of the worst of the christo-fascist) so I am well aware of the dangers we face. I am compelled to communicate this to my complacent neighbors.

Despite its conservative reputation, the City of Cincinnati is overwhelmingly Democratic (only two Republicans on City Council), but the suburbs are overwhelmingly Republican. In the county wide elections in November, we won two races and lost the rest, but is was by very close margins.

The outlying counties are hugely Republican
