Well I've got one for you - watch out for scammers pushing estate planning on your older parents.
Somehow, one got a hold of "me sainted mither" (my mom), and put some high pressure sales tactics on her to sell her a revocable trust and estate planning package for $2000.00 smackers.
It seemed like a reputable package, but was overkill for her needs, and cost waaayy more than it should have. My sister got a family lawyer today and we canceled it. Mom is OK but embarrassed.
After weaseling his way into her home, he stayed for 4 hours. They sell you a bill of goods to get your financial information, and then try to sell you insurance annuities - so they take your money while leaving you to believe you'll be better off.
The salesman obscured certain info on the cancellation portion of the contract, lied about the cancellation methods, the return address for the cancellation does not exist, the contract was back-dated one full day before it was signed (leaving us with a 48 hour cool down period instead of 72), and the gentleman listed as the lawyer denied any involvement with the firm. Further, no good information can be found regarding this firm on the big eye, and the PA Attorney Generals office specifically warns people of this type of tactic.
Just passing this along fyi.
