Do Canadian Teams That Win Championships Meet The President?
Just curious. If the Toronto Maple Leafs or Montreal Canadians won the Stanley Cup or the Blue Jays won the World Series or the Raptors the NBA title, would they get a meeting at the White House like American teams do?

anyone know?

But when team Canada won the gold in Hockey Chretien phoned the locker room. And spoke to wayne gretzky live
On edit; and talked completey out of his ass and was incoherent and most likely a bit tipsy...cause even Wayne had the "Get this guy off the phone" look on his Chevy Chase

2. yes--the President of France!
If Canadians win at baseball, they obviously cheated.

Hockey? Are there any teams left in Canada?

4. In a perfect world, there would be eight.
The Jets and Nordiques relocating was the greatest disappointment in the history of the NHL. Hockey has a place in Denver, IMO, but the Avalanche should've been an expansion team. And the Coyotes??? I SPIT on the Coyotes.

5. pth pthpt ptht
Yeah...I have always thought Quebec fans got ripped off...but Winnipeg...the owner gave them two years...they just stopped going to games. You can't run at team on 9000 people a game. Too bad...it's cause Manitoba is poor not because they aren't hockey fans

6. What are you talking about?? A WPG citizens group wanted to buy the team.
Edited on Thu Oct-02-03 08:45 PM by northwest
Barry Shenkarow (The Devil Himself) didn't want to sell the team to ANYONE, even when there were proposals by several groups to take the team off his hands and keep the team in Winnipeg. No, this was Shenkarow's fault. And BTW, the Jets were averaging over 12,000 fans a game in a 15,000-seat arena. Shenkarow wanted a new arena, but did not want to proactively get a marketing plan going, and he basically was pissing all the fans off. Go to this website http://www.curtiswalker.com/jets to read the story of what happened. This was NOT the fan's fault that they kept getting threatened and pissed off.

And Manitoba is NOT poor. There's plenty of well-to-do people and booming business there.

7. Want a NHL team, take the Blackhawks off my hands
I can't stand the disappointment year after year after year.
And you better get some players for that team before you hit the ice, cause Wirtz let all the good ones leave the team.

8. Maybe Izzy Asper's family can set up a deal with you guys.

Izzy Asper was a billionaire television magnate in Winnipeg. His family might just have the resources to help you out.:-)
