Why do you think certain people feel the need to yell when they talk?

I really don't get it. I mean, it's not like they're hearing impaired or anything of that sort.

I just don't get how a simple lunch conversation can resemble a shouting match.

Do these critters intend to be the loudest, the biggest, the proudest? Should smaller creatures run & hide?

3. I grew up around hearing impaired people

and I can't hear well if there's a lot of background noise so I tend to speak a bit loud in hopes other people will speak loud enough to carry over background noise.

12. Both of my parents are

somewhat hearing impaired (decades of factory work) so it's just kind of rreally loud talking in their house.

Add to that that I really AM a big barrel-chested kind-of-guy who just naturally has a loud booming voice. It gets really bad when I drink--I really only started to drink at bars, live music ones usually where you really have to bellow to be heard at all.

I try to keep my voice down, but sometimes I forget.

13. I KNOW!!! I can't even process what they say if they are talking directly

to me like that... and I can't process my own thoughts if they are anywhere in the vicinity talking like that. Even when I noticeably grimace at the sheer violent strength and pain of the noise emitting from their mouths, they don't seem to notice that they are doing it. :shrug:

15. i have a neighbor like that. he is so obnoxious

16. For some it's being hard of hearing; for most, it's just tackiness and

lack of manners and disregard for other people. Though even of the tacky loudmouth socially disastrous sort, I doubt they realize that they are talking way too loud, and I would imagine that little of it is actually inentional. Except the loudmouths on the cell phones - that's intentional.

And some cultures talk way louder than others - I found, when I lived in a Dominican neighborhood, that they talk REALLY FUCKING LOUD ALL THE TIME. Part of that, I'm sure, is the hearing loss they caused by playing their music so fucking loud; but most, I bet, is that the culture itself is just a loud speaking culture. And my family, all raised as dirt poor mostly uneducated farmer peasant types, also tend to speak louder than the average joe.
