A little advice?

So OK I've been looking for a job, which is not easy... but the other day my mom and I were having lunch at this place in town here and as we were leaving we saw the store right across had a help wanted sign.

So I went in and ask and they gave me a job app. and I filled it out and took it back the next day(Wednesday) the girl said she would talk to the owner and give me a call.

Its now Friday, and no call.

So my question is, should I just wait or should I go in there today, and whats going on? Or does that seem desperate(which I am) or does it seem like I'm very ambitious? :shrug:

I'm kind of thinking of waiting and see if they call Monday. What do you think?

4. I think your gut instinct to see if they call Monday is a good one.

It they don't, it doesn't hurt to call them casually to see if they were interested. You have nothing to lose.

9. Yeah. This is a small town and often times the owners of stores aren't

in the stores that much, and so they might just be waiting until Monday to call people?

I also think my job app. was very strong in the things they would like and need in an employee AND my references were really good, because the owners live near my "auntie" and I'm really good friends with the UPS lady who delivers to this store almost everyday.

If I knew one of the owners would be in today, I would so go, but I'm pretty sure neither one is there, they're hardly ever there.

12. Follow your gut

The end of the week is usually busy in a store of any size, so I would wait until Monday, a quieter day, usually, and I would actually go over to talk in person. If they say the owner isn't in, ask when and try to make an appointment.

Where do you live? Do you know how to knit or crochet? I need clerks for the shop I'm opening here in Battle Creek this fall . . .

You might get a "oh the owner hasn't had a chance to look at it yet", but it's always good to show interest.

It will make a big difference. Just tell them "I filed an application with you the other day, and was wondering when I could set up an interview?"

11. Do NOT call. Go in there in person. Dressed appropriately.

Ask does she remember you as the one who filled out the ap? Tell them you are really interested in the job, as you want to learn about retail and sales from the ground up and you think this store would be a great place to do that. Be sure to ask if the manager can speak with you for a few minutes, and impress upon him or her your interest in the field. Then ask if you can have the job.

After you get the nod there, you can negotiate pay and etc.

Showing a legitimate interest and selling your good qualities does not mean you are "desperate." It means you are interested, motivated, and good job candidate. Good luck.

they get enough aps to make it worth their wile to schedule interviews all for one day...especially if it is a national store and district manager has to come into town from somewhere else...

I would say go in. Be polite, dress appropriately. Explain that you filled out an app, you are very interested in the position and wonder if it's been filled yet.

Believe me, no employer has ever decided not to hire someone because they were too pushy. However, lots of people have failed to get jobs because they didn't show enough interest. Always follow up, even if they say they'll call.
